What affects the quote in Midton

You’ll get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The amount of work

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What to tell us for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • The address or postcode of the job

For a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before we start.

Floor joint sealing for homes and businesses in Midton

Every floor moves a little, so its edges need a joint that can flex. Skirting-to-floor gaps, tiled floor joints and concrete joints are all sealed using a product that suits the floor. If you are dealing with caulk that has cracked where the floor moves and tiled floors with no room to move, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Around smaller Scottish places like Midton, new homes tend to be single plots or small developments. Each needs its sealant and floor joints finished as carefully as on a big site.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we will give you a quote.

We work for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for before the next move-in.

What floor joint sealing looks like in Midton

Across Inverclyde, floors range from older suspended timber floors to concrete slabs in newer homes and commercial units, and they do not all move the same way. The joint at the skirting or threshold has to allow for that. Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, so skirting and sealant joints can open up as the building settles.

If you look after a building such as Gourock High School, floor and threshold joints in busy corridors wear quickly and are best resealed early. If you let a flat or house near Gourock station, gaps at skirtings and thresholds are worth sealing between tenancies. For buildings such as St Bartholomew's Church, joints in its floors, skirtings and thresholds need resealing as they wear.

Midton is about 2 miles west of Greenock, in Inverclyde. We provide floor joint sealing to householders, landlords and businesses in Midton. Across Inverclyde, we cover 19 places, and Midton is one of them. For nearby work, see our Glasgow page (22 miles or so).

We cover every part of PA19 and PA16 for floor joint sealing and the streets around it. That includes homes and businesses on Fife Road, Golf Road and Banff Road. Being close to the A770, Midton is simple for us to get to. Nearby, we also carry out floor joint sealing in Ashton (1 mile south-west), Gourock (1 mile east), Trumpethill (1 mile west), Braeside (1 mile south) and Branchton (1 mile south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Port Glasgow (6 miles east), Cartsdyke (3 miles east), Kilmacolm (9 miles south-east), Mid Auchinleck (7 miles east), Inverkip (3 miles south-west) and Bogston (5 miles east).

How it works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for most rooms, longer for large commercial floors and we leave things clean and tidy. Around Midton, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First, the floor type, the gap and the traffic are checked.
  2. Any old caulk, grout or sealant is raked or cut out.
  3. We vacuum out the joint and add backing where the depth needs setting.
  4. The chosen sealant goes in, coloured to suit the floor.
  5. We tool it neatly and tell you when it can be walked on and cleaned.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Move anything stored near the joints

How to get a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that is easy.

What happens if it’s left?

Floor joints left open collect dirt that’s hard to clean out and makes the floor look worn. Sealed joints are easier to keep clean. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Why us?

  • Full insurance on every job
  • Colour picked to suit the job
  • An ARBOMaster approved applicator

Different surfaces, different methods

Skirting boards

Skirting gaps are one of the most common floor joints we seal. The old caulk is removed first.

Commercial floors

In commercial buildings, we can plan floor joint work around opening hours. Out-of-hours working can be arranged where it’s needed.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Loose, hollow or cracked tiles, which need a tiler
  • Bouncy or failing floorboards
  • Movement too big for a sealant joint

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

  • Tiled floors
  • Commercial floors
  • Wet room & bathroom floors

FAQs for Midton

Do you work for landlords with property near Gourock station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Midton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured for every job we do.

How long will you be here?

Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon for most homes. We will confirm how long when we quote.

Will there be a smell?

Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Does someone need to be in?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Do you seal warehouse floor joints?

Yes, from warehouses and units to offices and shops. Work can be planned around your hours, and out-of-hours work can be arranged.

Which products do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Check skirting joints after the heating season
  • Ask before painting over a sealed joint
  • Avoid sloshing water against skirting
  • Keep caulk for dry, still joints only

Keep heavy furniture from dragging across the joints. Sharp edges can cut the sealant before it has fully cured.

A tiled floor that cracks along a line will keep cracking until it can move. Adding a movement joint early can stop cracks spreading to the tiles.
