Trumpethill Floor Joint Sealing
Floor joint sealing for Trumpethill and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Call for a quick quote.
- Gaps between floors and kitchen plinths
- Grout used at the floor edge instead of sealant
- Caulk that has cracked where the floor moves
How we handle floor joint sealing in Trumpethill
Tiled floors can crack along the grout when there’s no room for movement. Where one is needed, we rake out the grout along the right line and replace it with flexible sealant. If you have cracked caulk along skirting in bathrooms and kitchens and concrete floor joints that have broken down, we can put it right, on thresholds, skirting boards and tiled floors alike.
For a place like Trumpethill, the journey and access are planned in advance. Inside work goes ahead in any weather; outside mastic needs a dry day.
All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Inverclyde.

How the job changes by surface
Concrete floor joints
We clean concrete joints out thoroughly before sealing. We fit backing where needed.
Commercial floors
Commercial floors take more traffic than most homes. The sealant is chosen for the traffic the floor takes.
Floor joint sealing around Trumpethill
Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and as the frame dries and settles, skirting and sealant joints can open up. Floors around Inverclyde run from suspended timber in older homes to concrete in newer houses and units, and they don’t all move the same way. That is why the skirting and threshold joints need a flexible seal.
Rented homes near Gourock station change hands often, and a tidy floor and skirting joint helps a rental look ready for the next tenant. If you look after a building such as Gourock High School, floor and threshold joints in busy corridors wear quickly and are best resealed early.
Trumpethill is about 1 mile west of Gourock, in Inverclyde. We provide floor joint sealing to householders, landlords and businesses in Trumpethill, as part of our work across Inverclyde. Trumpethill is one of 19 places in Inverclyde we cover. There’s also a page for Glasgow, about 23 miles away.
Here we cover the PA19 and PA16 postcode area for floor joint sealing. When something else is needed
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:
- Concrete repairs beyond the joint
- Bouncy or failing floorboards
- Tiles that have lifted or broken
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

Trumpethill: your questions answered
Is Trumpethill within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you do floor joint sealing in Trumpethill?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Trumpethill is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
Why not just use caulk?
Caulk works on still, dry joints, but it splits where the joint moves or gets wet. For most floor joints, we use a flexible sealant.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
What do you put in the joint?
We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will explain our choice.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Trumpethill and across Inverclyde. We can quote a run of properties together.
What else we do in Trumpethill
Why deal with it now?
Leaving skirting gaps until the next decorating job lets dirt and draughts in. Sealing them now is a short job in most rooms. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
Why book with us
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- 20+ years of sealant experience
- You choose the colour before work begins
- Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
How the visit works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the length of joint. For a place like Trumpethill, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We clear the edges of the floor so the joints are easy to reach.
- We take out the cracked caulk, grout or old sealant.
- We clean and dry the edges of the joint.
- We apply a flexible sealant suited to the floor and smooth it.
- We check the joints and explain the aftercare.
Before we arrive
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Move anything stored near the joints

Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Get cracks along tile grout lines looked at early
- Use furniture pads near skirting
- Avoid sloshing water against skirting
- Keep caulk for dry, still joints only
Don’t paint over silicone. If you plan to paint, we will use a paintable product.
A tiled floor that cracks along a line will keep cracking until it can move. Adding a movement joint early can stop cracks spreading to the tiles.
