Floor joint sealing in Gowkhall, done properly

Floor joint sealing is mostly about choosing the right product and preparing the joint. We remove what’s there first, the joint is cleaned and backed where needed, then the new sealant goes in. We work on skirting boards, commercial floors and thresholds, and people most often call us about rigid edge joints in tiled floors and gaps opening between the floor and skirting.

Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and it settles over the first years, which shows as gaps at skirtings and floor joints. Older stone-built homes, meanwhile, often have timber floors that move with the seasons.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in Gowkhall and across Fife.

Common questions in Gowkhall

Is Gowkhall within the area you cover?

Yes. Gowkhall is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you do floor joint sealing in Gowkhall?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Gowkhall is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

In most cases you can choose. We will tell you which colours the right product comes in.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Should I try DIY first?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Can you reseal concrete floor joints in an industrial unit?

Yes. Old filler is cleaned out and the joint resealed with a floor-joint product. Tell us what runs over the floor.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon for most homes. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We start by checking the floor, the joint and what traffic it takes.
  2. We remove what’s in the joint now.
  3. The joint is vacuumed clean and backing fitted where needed.
  4. The chosen sealant goes in, coloured to suit the floor.
  5. The joint is tooled neatly and the cure time explained.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Different surfaces, different methods

Tiled floors

When grout cracks along a straight line, the floor is telling you it needs to move. We rake out that line and seal it where it suits the floor.

Commercial floors

Floor joint work in businesses can be planned around your hours. We can arrange out-of-hours work if the floor is busy.

Quotes for floor joint sealing in Gowkhall

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will talk you through it.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • The type of property
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • A few pictures by email, if you can

We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send pictures if you have them.

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Check the sealant is paintable before decorating
  • Do not slide heavy items over sealed joints
  • Keep heavy wheels off new concrete joints until cured
  • Keep floor cleaning water to a minimum at the edges

Mop with a well-wrung mop rather than flooding the floor. Keeping the edges drier helps the sealant last longer.

Once concrete joint edges start to break, wheels make it worse. Sealing them early protects the edges and the floor safer.

Common problems we fix in Gowkhall

Grout is rigid, so a tiled floor with nowhere to move cracks along a grout line. You’ll see a crack running along the grout, showing where a movement joint was needed.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Failed joint filler in concrete floors
  • Skirting that has pulled away from the floor
  • Rigid edge joints in tiled floors
  • Open joints that fill with dirt

If you look after a church, hall or community building such as Parish Church, floor and skirting joints in halls and kitchens wear like any others.

Questions to ask before you book

  • The length of the guarantee
  • What product goes in the joint
  • Are they insured?
