Floor joint sealing in Carrickstone

Floor joint sealing in Carrickstone, done properly

Wet-area floor joints keep water out of the gap behind skirting and plinths. We seal them with a flexible, water-resistant sealant. We work on concrete floor joints, commercial floors and wet room & bathroom floors, and common reasons people get in touch are concrete floor joints that have broken down and dirt and water collecting in open floor joints.

New homes in smaller Scottish places are often single plots, self-builds or small developments. Each needs its sealant and floor joints finished as carefully as on a big site.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Cone off fresh joints until they’re ready
  • Check the sealant is paintable before decorating
  • Walk round the room once a year and look at the edges
  • Keep caulk for dry, still joints only

In commercial units, keep pallet trucks and heavy wheels off new joints until they’ve cured. Cone off the area if needed.

Sealing a gap while it’s small is a quick job. Ignored, they fill with dirt and open further over time.

The process

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a morning or an afternoon for most homes, and the area is left clean. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We look at the gap and the floor type and agree the right sealant.
  2. We take out any old caulk, sealant or grout along the line.
  3. The joint is cleaned, vacuumed and backed where depth needs controlling.
  4. The sealant goes in, chosen for the floor and coloured to suit it.
  5. We tool the joint neatly and tell you when it can be walked on and cleaned.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Concrete floor joints

Sawn joints in concrete floors control where it cracks. We reseal them with a floor-joint product suited to the traffic.

Skirting boards

If the skirting is painted, a paintable flexible sealant works well. Where water is involved, silicone is the better choice.

FAQs for Carrickstone

Is Carrickstone in your area for floor joint sealing?

Yes, Carrickstone is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Carrickstone?

Yes. Carrickstone is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. We cover Carrickstone and the rest of North Lanarkshire.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.

Do I have to be there?

That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Do you work on commercial floors?

Yes. We reseal concrete floor joints in commercial and industrial units. The product is chosen for the traffic the floor takes.

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Why it’s worth doing now in Carrickstone

Not every floor joint takes the same sealant: skirting and tiled floors need flexibility, wet areas need water resistance and concrete needs a product suited to wheels. Using the wrong one is why many floor joints fail. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Floor joint sealing around Carrickstone

Floors around North Lanarkshire run from suspended timber in older homes to concrete in newer houses and units, and each moves in its own way. The joint at the skirting or threshold has to allow for that. Many new homes in Scotland are timber-framed, so skirting and sealant joints can open up as the building settles.

If you look after a building such as Our Lady's High, floor and threshold joints in busy corridors wear quickly and are best resealed early. Letting a property close to Cumbernauld station? Then open skirting and floor joints collect dirt and water, so seal them while the property is empty.

What affects the quote in Carrickstone

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The size of the job
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

Want a quote for floor joint sealing? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear price before work begins.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Loose, hollow or cracked tiles, which need a tiler
  • Water getting under the tiles from elsewhere
  • Bouncy or failing floorboards

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
