Fire Rated Sealant in Reraig
Fire-stopping gaps in Reraig need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant.
- Open joints along the top of partitions
- Open holes round services passing through fire walls
- Holes left by a change of layout
Surface by surface
Service penetrations
Pipes, cables and ducts passing through fire-resisting walls and floors each leave a gap. The sealant is chosen for what passes through and how wide the gap is.
Masonry and concrete
Core-drilled and broken-out holes in concrete are often irregular. We measure the gap at its widest point against the product’s tested range.
Fire rated sealant for homes and businesses in Reraig
Filling a fire-stopping gap with standard silicone or caulk doesn’t make it fire-rated. We cut out the wrong material and the gap is resealed with a product tested for that use. Common call-outs are for open holes round services passing through fire walls and open gaps behind door architraves, across door frames, flats & HMOs and pipe & cable gaps.
For a place like Reraig, the journey and timings are planned in advance, so the job can fit around guests, residents or opening hours where possible.
All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Highland.

Workplaces and buildings in Reraig
If you run a hotel, guest house or holiday let in a coastal place like Reraig, busy months put washrooms and kitchens under pressure, so it’s worth checking the sealant before the busiest weeks. Scotland has its own building regulations, the Building (Scotland) Regulations, with technical handbooks. We install fire-rated sealant to the product’s tested details, though we don’t certify buildings or do fire risk assessments.
Letting a property close to Kyle of Lochalsh station? Then fire-rated sealant around pipes and cables through walls and floors needs making good whenever new services go through. For buildings such as Lochalsh Parish Church, service openings in its walls need the right fire-rated sealant, as in any building.

How it works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a few hours for a handful of gaps, and longer for a whole building, including the tidy-up. Around Reraig, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We start with the survey or action list, checking the size and surfaces of every gap.
- Old or unsuitable sealant is cut out and the gap cleaned.
- Backing or fill is fitted where the product’s tested detail calls for it.
- We apply the fire-rated or intumescent sealant to the specified depth and tool it.
- Finally, we list where we worked and what we used, for your records.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Let us know about parking restrictions

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Issuing a fire rating or certificate for a building
- A wall that is not a fire-resisting element to begin with
- Deciding what fire stopping a building needs

FAQs for Reraig
Will you come out to Reraig?
Yes. Reraig is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Are the rules for fire-rated sealant different in Scotland?
Building work in Scotland comes under the Building (Scotland) Regulations and their technical handbooks. Fire-rated sealant has to go in to the product’s tested details, and we follow them. We don’t certify buildings or do fire risk assessments; your assessor or building control can tell you what’s required.
Do you take on fire stopping in schools and offices?
Yes, in flats, HMOs, schools, offices and other buildings, occupied or empty. Let us know the building’s hours and we’ll plan the work to suit.
Is it worth trying it myself?
That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.
Do I have to be there?
We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Will you leave a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
Where do you work from?
We work from Crawley. We cover Reraig and the rest of Highland.
Will we have a record of what was sealed?
Yes. We note each location and the product that went in.
What affects the quote in Reraig
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether the work is at height
Doing several joints on one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.
Asking for a quote
To make quoting easier, let us know:
- Where the property is
- How we’d reach the joints
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- If someone has resealed it before
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Can I do it myself?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Why act early in Reraig
An unsealed gap lets smoke and fire get round a wall that was built to hold them back. Sealing it properly restores what the wall was there to do, and the sealing itself is often a contained piece of work. In an older home around Reraig, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.
