Need fire rated sealant in Macedonia?

Fire rated sealant in Macedonia

In flats, HMOs, offices and schools, fire stopping is often disturbed by later work. One new cable or pipe can leave a gap that nobody goes back to seal. We seal them with a product tested for that kind of gap. We are often asked to deal with damaged fire sealant left by other trades and gaps left after a refit or conversion, across linear gaps, pipe & cable gaps and service penetrations.

If you look after holiday lets, a guest house or a community building in or near Macedonia, washroom and kitchen sealant and any fire-rated joints need the same attention as anywhere.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Macedonia and across Fife.

What affects the quote in Macedonia

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The size of the job
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

We don’t publish a price list. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

The process

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes a few hours for a handful of gaps, and longer for a whole building. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We go through the gaps on your list or survey and check each one’s size and substrate.
  2. We remove any old or unsuitable filler and clean the gap.
  3. Backing or fill is fitted where the product’s tested detail calls for it.
  4. The sealant goes in to the depth its detail sets, then it’s tooled off.
  5. We record the locations and products used for your records.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

How the job changes by surface

Plasterboard walls

Holes in plasterboard are often cut roughly for services. Where a hole is bigger than the sealant’s tested range, it needs another approach, and we’ll tell you.

Linear gaps

Gaps along the top of partitions are easy to miss above a ceiling. We seal them along their full length.

Do you need fire rated sealant in Macedonia?

Lots of unsealed gaps appear long after the building was completed. New cables, pipes and data runs go through walls and ceilings and the hole round the new service isn’t always sealed again.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Open joints along the top of partitions
  • Holes left by a change of layout
  • Old fire sealant that has split or come away
  • Unsealed gaps around fire door frames

Community buildings like Old Anti Burgher Kirk are part of the picture too: gaps around pipes and cables are worth checking after any building work there.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How long to leave it before use

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Fire doors that need new seals, closers or hardware
  • Certifying a building or signing off its fire safety
  • Deciding what fire stopping a building needs

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Plasterboard & masonry
  • Linear gaps
  • Flats & HMOs
  • Service penetrations
  • Door frames
  • Pipe & cable gaps

Looking after it afterwards

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Keep the record of products and locations with your fire safety documents
  • Ask which product was used before you paint
  • Make resealing part of every contractor’s brief
  • Keep photos of seals that will be hidden

Look at the sealed gaps as part of your routine walk-rounds. Look for cracks, gaps or sealant that has been cut or pulled out and get them seen to.

Leave a fire-stopping gap open and smoke can move through the building much more easily. Sealing it early is a simple step to take.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. We can quote a run of properties together, and we’re fully insured for the work.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can be quoted together.

Questions from Macedonia

Do Scottish building rules affect fire-rated sealant work in Macedonia?

Building work in Scotland comes under the Building (Scotland) Regulations and their technical handbooks. Fire-rated sealant has to go in to the product’s tested details, and we follow them. We don’t certify buildings or do fire risk assessments; your assessor or building control can tell you what’s required.

Do you work for landlords with property near Markinch station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Which products do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Do you take on fire stopping in schools and offices?

Yes. We regularly work in flats, HMOs, schools and offices while they’re in use, with access planned around residents or staff. Early starts or out-of-hours work can be arranged if that suits the building.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Will you leave a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we are done.

How long does fire rated sealant take?

It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on how many gaps there are. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Scotland has its own building regulations, the Building (Scotland) Regulations, with technical handbooks. We install fire-rated sealant to the product’s tested details, though we don’t certify buildings or do fire risk assessments.

Letting a property close to Markinch station? Then fire-rated sealant around pipes and cables through walls and floors needs making good whenever new services go through.
