Fire rated sealant in Compton, done properly
Deciding which gaps need fire stopping isn’t our role; your assessor, designer or building control sets that out. What we do is apply the right product to that specification, properly and neatly. If you have gaps left after a refit or conversion and gaps flagged on a fire risk assessment, we can put it right.
Work in a small place like Compton is planned ahead, journey included, so the job can fit around bookings, guests or opening times where possible.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Compton as everywhere else we work.

Honest limits
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. Sealant will not put right:
- Deciding what fire stopping a building needs
- Sign-off of the building, which sits with building control or your assessor
- Fire doors that need new seals, closers or hardware
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we seal
- Flats & HMOs
- Plasterboard & masonry
- Pipe & cable gaps
- Service penetrations
- Door frames
- Linear gaps
DIY versus a professional finish
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
What the job involves on each surface
Masonry and concrete
Preparation counts on brick, block and concrete. We brush and vacuum the gap and use backing where the detail needs it.
Linear gaps
A linear joint may need to allow for movement as well as fire. The product and depth are chosen to suit both, following the tested detail.
Common questions in Compton
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Farncombe station?
Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.
Do you cover smaller places like Compton?
Yes, Compton is covered. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you tell me how many minutes the seal will last?
Ratings and certificates are not something we issue. The performance comes from the product’s tested details and the specification from your assessor or designer; we install to those details and record what we did.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.
How long does fire rated sealant take?
It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on how many gaps there are. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.
Do you take on fire stopping in schools and offices?
Yes. We regularly work in flats, HMOs, schools and offices while they’re in use. Out-of-hours work can be arranged where it’s needed.
Fire rated sealant in Compton: local notes
In England, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a fire risk assessment for workplaces and for the common parts of blocks of flats, which is often where open fire-stopping gaps are first noticed. We work to the specification you’re given, installing the product to its tested details.
Schools such as Loseley Fields Primary School are buildings too, and gaps opened by contractors for new cabling are a common finding in schools and offices. For buildings such as Church of St Nicholas, gaps around pipes and cables are worth checking after any building work there. For landlords with property near Farncombe station, fire-rated sealant around pipes and cables through walls and floors needs making good whenever new services go through.

For a village or hamlet like Compton, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- Access to each area is agreed so the work can run in order.

Advice
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.
We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for before the next move-in.
Why it’s worth doing now in Compton
Fire-rated sealants need more care than everyday sealant. Depth, backing and surface preparation all affect how a seal performs, so we follow the maker’s details on every gap. Around Compton, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
