What the job involves on each surface

Service penetrations

Service penetrations are where new gaps often appear. Old or unsuitable filler comes out before the right sealant goes in.

Masonry and concrete

Brick, block and concrete walls and floors are sealed with products tested in masonry. The gap is cleaned of dust first so the sealant bonds.

About our fire rated sealant in Camdean

Fire-rated sealant closes the gaps around pipes, cables and frames where they pass through a fire-resisting wall or floor. Each gap is sealed to the product maker’s tested detail for its size and substrate. If you are dealing with fire stopping disturbed by later work and linear gaps at the head of walls, we can help.

If you look after holiday lets, a guest house or a community building in or near Camdean, the washrooms and kitchens need the same care as any city building, and fire-rated joints should be kept in good order.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

When something else is needed

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. Sealant will not put right:

  • Sign-off of the building, which sits with building control or your assessor
  • Doors that are not fire doors in the first place
  • A wall that is not a fire-resisting element to begin with

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Pipe & cable gaps

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Keep general-purpose foam and caulk away from fire-stopping gaps
  • Include hidden areas like risers in routine checks
  • Plan fire stopping into any work that goes through walls or floors
  • Ask which product was used before you paint

Any fire seal that’s cut or drilled needs resealing to its tested detail. If you need new services through a sealed wall, plan the fire stopping as part of the job.

Small gaps around services are simple to deal with while there are only a few. Leave them and each new job adds another hole and the list grows.

Commercial buildings in Camdean

For seaside hotels, guest houses and holiday lets around Camdean, heavy use in the busy months is hard on washroom and kitchen sealant, and any building work there should leave fire-rated joints made good. Scotland has its own building regulations, the Building (Scotland) Regulations, with technical handbooks. Fire-rated sealant is installed to the manufacturer’s tested details; we do not certify buildings or carry out fire risk assessments.

Community buildings like Rosyth Parish Church are part of the picture too: gaps around pipes and cables are worth checking after any building work there. Letting a property close to Rosyth station? Then any gap left by new services in shared walls should be closed with a fire-rated product.

How we quote for fire rated sealant

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

What to tell us for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Where the property is
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The rough size of the job
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before work begins.

What we do, step by step

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access. Somewhere like Camdean may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We begin by agreeing the list of gaps from your assessor’s or designer’s requirements.
  2. Each gap is measured and its substrate and service noted.
  3. Unsuitable material such as ordinary foam or silicone is cut out.
  4. The specified fire-rated sealant goes in over any backing its detail requires.
  5. We hand over a list of locations and products for your files.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Do you need fire rated sealant in Camdean?

Lots of unsealed gaps appear long after the building was completed. New cables, pipes and data runs go through walls and ceilings and the hole they leave does not always get resealed.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Fire seals that have cracked with movement
  • Gaps where walls meet ceilings or slabs
  • Seals cut through by electricians, plumbers or data installers
  • Door frames with gaps between frame and wall

Schools such as Dunfermline High School are buildings too, and gaps opened by contractors for new cabling are a common finding in schools and offices.

FAQs for Camdean

Will you come out to Camdean?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Rosyth station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.

Will we have a record of what was sealed?

Yes. When the job is done, we give you the locations and products. If you need photos or a set layout, ask when you get a quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

How long will you be here?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.
