External mastic for homes and businesses in Nob's Crook

Many failed façade joints only get noticed once there’s a stain or a damp patch inside. We look over the joints, agree the ones to renew and reseal with a flexible, weatherproof product in a matching colour. We work on façade panels, render & cladding joints and brickwork movement joints, and the jobs we see most are sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render and plants rooting in failed movement joints.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Nob's Crook is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Why deal with it now?

Water gets in through a failed movement joint. Resealing early keeps the job to the joint itself, rather than the wall around it. In a small place like Nob's Crook, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Different surfaces, different methods

Concrete and blockwork

Big joints in concrete need careful depth control. Backing rod sized to the joint sets it.

Render joints

Water behind render can lead to blown patches. A sound joint keeps the render dry behind.

Nob's Crook buildings and the weather

Historic houses like South Stoneham House (about 4.6 miles south-west) are a reminder that the area around Nob's Crook has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Managing a site like Colden Common Primary School? Then movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s. If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Trinity, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Letting a property close to Eastleigh station? Then outside joints that have cracked can let damp into a rental, so check them between lets.

How we quote for external mastic

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether the work is at height

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • The type of property
  • The problem you’ve noticed

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Simply phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.

What happens on the day

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. Somewhere like Nob's Crook needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We start by checking each joint, agreeing the ones to redo and how we will reach them.
  2. The old mastic and anything lodged in the joint is removed.
  3. Both sides are cleaned back to sound material and primed if needed.
  4. Closed-cell backing rod is fitted to set the depth and stop three-sided bonding.
  5. A flexible exterior sealant is applied and tooled in a colour to suit the wall.

How to prepare

Advice

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Have failed joints looked at early
  • Keep movement joints as flexible joints, not mortar
  • Avoid pressure-washing directly into sealant joints
  • Look over the joints every year, ideally after winter

Keep pressure washers away from the sealant. High-pressure water can lift the edges and let water in behind.

If you can see gaps, plants or bare sections in a joint, have it checked. Earlier resealing means a smaller job and a better result.
