Isfield External Mastic
Our applicators work in Isfield on sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and a one-year guarantee.
- Panel joints letting water in
- Failed seals between different materials
- Movement joints with cracked, split or missing sealant
About our external mastic in Isfield
A movement joint is only as good as its depth. Closed-cell backing rod sets the depth and stops the sealant sticking to the back, leaving it bonded to two faces so it can move with the wall. If you are dealing with damp patches traced to an open external joint and joints with sealant missing in places, we can help.
External sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work around Isfield is planned for dry weather. Let us know about access to every wall, plus any garages or outbuildings.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

FAQs for Isfield
Is Isfield within the area you cover?
Yes. Isfield is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you work for landlords with property near Uckfield station?
Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. We can talk about working times when we quote.
How often do external joints need resealing?
There’s no fixed answer: joints on exposed walls or with a lot of movement age sooner. A yearly look will tell you when they need doing. Every job carries our one-year guarantee.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
How long does the job take?
Typically it takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will say how long yours will take.
How do you reach high-level joints?
It depends on the height and the site. Ground-floor joints are simple; for higher work, tell us about the building and we’ll confirm what’s needed.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
When it is not the sealant
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Rising or penetrating damp from elsewhere in the wall
- Cracking across the wall rather than at a joint
- Structural movement, which needs a surveyor or engineer
If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think.
What we seal
- Render & cladding joints
- Concrete & block
- Joints between brick and frames
- Brickwork movement joints
- Façade panels
- Copings & trims
How the visit works
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on. Expect the work to take a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere as small as Isfield, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We look at every joint and agree a colour to suit the wall.
- We take out the old sealant until the faces are sound.
- Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
- We prime the faces where required.
- A low-modulus exterior sealant is gunned in and tooled to a neat finish.
Getting ready for the visit
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Move anything stored near the joints

Advice
Walls and rooflines in Isfield
Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. With historic houses such as Glyndebourne (about 4.1 miles south) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Isfield as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

How we quote for external mastic
You will get a clear quote before any work starts. It’s based on:
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- When we can work, for business premises
- The number and length of the joints
- The product the joint needs
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
What to tell us for a quote
To help us quote quickly, let us know:
- How we’d reach the joints
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- The rough size of the job
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. Whenever you’re ready, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Deal with leaking gutters that soak the joints below
- Avoid pressure-washing directly into sealant joints
- Don’t let climbing plants root in the sealant
- Tell anyone working on the walls about the movement joints
Keep the joints clear of soil, plants and climbing growth. Anything that holds water against the joint wears it out sooner.
If you can see gaps, plants or bare sections in a joint, have it checked. Early work is quicker and leaves a better finish.
When to call us in Isfield
Sometimes a movement joint was filled with mortar or a rigid filler, often by someone who didn’t know what it was for. With the joint locked solid, the movement turns into cracks elsewhere in the wall.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Sealant pulling away from one side of the joint
- Plants rooting in failed movement joints
- Leaking joints around cladding and façade panels
- Cracked joints where brick meets render or frames
In the older streets around The Parish Church of St Margaret, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.
What your quote should include
- What happens if the job turns out different
- Who turns up on the day
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
Should I try it myself first?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
How the job changes by surface
Cladding and façade panels
Where a cladding system has its own specified sealant, we follow it, or one the system allows. Tell us what the building has when you get in touch.
Copings and trims
Coping and trim joints face rain and sun head on. Each is resealed with a weatherproof, flexible sealant.
