What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Movement that is more than a sealant joint can take
  • Walls that need new movement joints cut into them
  • Failed render or damaged cladding panels

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

External mastic in Inverarish

Many failed façade joints only get noticed once there’s a stain or a damp patch inside. We look over the joints, agree the ones to renew and reseal with a flexible, weatherproof product in a colour to suit. We work on copings & trims, brickwork movement joints and render & cladding joints, and people most often call us about water getting into walls through failed joints and hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Inverarish depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Show decorators and builders where the movement joints are
  • Keep movement joints as flexible joints, not mortar
  • Get split or bare joints resealed while the damage is small
  • Wash walls gently around the sealant

Don’t let soil, plants or ivy build up against the new joints. Anything that holds water against the joint wears it out sooner.

Water getting behind cladding or render can go unnoticed for a long time. When it finally shows inside, the joint may have been open for years, so it’s worth resealing at the first signs.

Inverarish: your questions answered

Is Inverarish in your area for external mastic?

Yes, Inverarish is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Inverarish?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How do you reach high-level joints?

That depends on how high the joints are and the ground below. Ground-floor joints are simple; for higher work, tell us about the building and we’ll confirm what’s needed.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

How much does external mastic cost in Inverarish?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You will get a clear quote before work begins.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

Do you use backing rod?

Backing rod controls the sealant depth and keeps it off the back of the joint. That way it bonds to the two sides only and can stretch.

Surface by surface

Brickwork movement joints

Brick walls have vertical movement joints to absorb expansion. We reseal them with a low-modulus sealant over backing rod.

Concrete and blockwork

Concrete faces can be dusty and porous, so cleaning and priming matter. A primer goes on where the product requires one.

When to call us in Inverarish

UV, rain and frost all age exterior sealant. Over the years it hardens, cracks on the surface and loses its give, so the next time the wall moves, it splits or pulls away.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Weathered mastic that no longer stretches
  • Leaking joints around cladding and façade panels
  • Weeds or debris growing in open joints
  • Joints where the bead has come unstuck

Around Inverarish, as everywhere, external mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How to choose a mastic man

Leave it or put it right?

It often makes sense to reseal all the failing joints on an elevation together. Joints of the same age tend to fail together. Around Inverarish, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Why Inverarish customers choose us

  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
  • Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild

Outside joints around Inverarish

Inverarish is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on movement joints and outside wall joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.

For jobs in and around Inverarish, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Inverarish is in Highland. Jobs in Inverarish get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Across Highland, we cover 253 places, and Inverarish is one of them.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

What happens on the day

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We look at every joint and agree a colour to suit the wall.
  2. Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
  3. Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
  4. Primer is applied wherever the sealant needs it.
  5. A low-modulus exterior sealant is gunned in and tooled to a neat finish.

How to prepare

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
