How the job changes by surface
Brickwork movement joints
Vertical joints in long brick walls let the brickwork expand without cracking. They’re resealed over backing rod with a low-modulus sealant in a colour to suit the brick.
Cladding and façade panels
Panels heat up and cool down quickly, so the joint sealant has to cope with frequent movement. The sealant is chosen with that in mind.
External mastic for homes and businesses in Eton Wick
Low-level joints can generally be done from the ground. Where joints are higher up, tell us about the building when you get in touch and we’ll confirm what access is needed. We work on concrete & block, brickwork movement joints and render & cladding joints, and common reasons people get in touch are leaking joints around cladding and façade panels and weathered mastic that no longer stretches.
Somewhere as small as Eton Wick, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, so walls and rooflines take the full force of wind and rain. Joints on those walls need a sealant that moves with the building and stays in place.

Questions from Eton Wick
Is Eton Wick within the area you cover?
Yes. Eton Wick is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
I let a flat near Windsor & Eton Central station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Every job comes with a one-year guarantee.
Will you leave a mess?
No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
How often do external joints need resealing?
That depends on the wall, the weather and the movement. Look for splits, hardening or edges coming away, and reseal at that point.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.
Can you reach joints on upper floors?
It depends on the building. Send us photos and a rough idea of the height and we’ll confirm how they can be reached safely.
Which products do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.
Why act early in Eton Wick
The longer a joint stays open, the more water the wall takes in. Wet masonry is more easily damaged by frost near the open joint, so the damage spreads beyond the joint. In a small place like Eton Wick, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What external mastic looks like in Eton Wick
Historic houses like Dorney Court (about 1.4 miles west) are a reminder that the area around Eton Wick has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
Homes close to Church of Saint John the Baptist include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant. For landlords with property near Windsor & Eton Central station, split movement joints are easy to miss on a rental until damp shows inside. If you look after a building such as Eton Wick CofE First School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

When it isn’t the sealant
New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:
- Damp from another source, such as a leaking gutter or a bridged damp-proof course
- Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer
- Walls that need new movement joints cut into them
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we seal
- Façade panels
- Concrete & block
- Brickwork movement joints
- Render & cladding joints
- Joints between brick and frames
- Copings & trims
What we do, step by step
There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access in most cases. In a small place like Eton Wick, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We look at every joint and agree a colour to suit the wall.
- Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
- Closed-cell backing rod is pushed in so the sealant bonds to two sides only.
- Primer is applied wherever the sealant needs it.
- A low-modulus exterior sealant is gunned in and tooled to a neat finish.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

How we quote for external mastic
Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- How easy the joints are to reach
- Any mould that needs treating
We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.
What we need to know
To help us quote quickly, let us know:
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- The address or postcode of the job
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.
DIY versus a professional finish
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
