External & façade joints in Canada, Hampshire
Our applicators work in Canada on sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Water getting into walls through failed joints
- Joints with sealant missing in places
- Movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant
Aftercare tips
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Never let anyone fill a movement joint with mortar
- Walk round the building once a year and look at the joints
- Keep water from gutters off the wall
- Show decorators and builders where the movement joints are
Look over the joints once a year, ideally after winter. Splits, gaps at the edges or plants in the joint are early warning signs.
An open movement joint lets rain into the wall every time it pours. Over time it can mean damp inside, stained render or frost-damaged brick.
External mastic in Canada, done properly
Failed sealant is cut out, the depth set with closed-cell backing rod, and the joint resealed with a low-modulus sealant made for outside. We pick a colour that sits well with the wall so the line blends in. We are often asked to deal with cracked joints where brick meets render or frames and joints pointed up with cement by mistake, on copings & trims, joints between brick and frames and façade panels.
Around Canada, older buildings can be stone, brick or timber-framed, many with extensions added later. Where one material meets another is where water generally gets in.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

How the visit works
The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can carry on as normal. The job generally takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere as small as Canada, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We look at every joint and agree a colour to suit the wall.
- We take out the old sealant until the faces are sound.
- Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
- Primer is applied wherever the sealant needs it.
- A low-modulus exterior sealant is gunned in and tooled to a neat finish.
Getting ready for the visit

Advice
Canada buildings and the weather
Historic houses like Landford Manor (about 2 miles north-west) are a reminder that the area around Canada has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.
For landlords with property near Romsey station, failed wall and movement joints let damp in, so they’re worth checking between tenancies. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wellow School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s. Historic houses such as Landford Manor, about 2 miles north-west, show how far back building around Canada goes.

Canada: your questions answered
I let a flat near Romsey station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.
Do you cover Canada for external mastic?
Yes, Canada is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.
Do you work at height?
Each building is different. Send us pictures and a rough idea of the height and we will confirm how they can be reached safely.
What colours does the sealant come in?
There’s a good range of exterior colours, including greys, browns, whites and stone tones. We pick the one that suits your wall best so it doesn’t stand out.
Where are you based?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Canada.
What’s an expansion joint in brickwork?
It’s a deliberate gap that lets the wall expand and contract without cracking. It should be filled with flexible sealant, never mortar.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with our work in that time, tell us and we will put it right.
What happens if it’s left?
Pointing a movement joint with mortar might seem a neat fix, but it stops the joint moving. The wall then cracks somewhere else. A flexible sealant over backing rod is what the joint needs. Older cottages and farmhouses around Canada can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What else we do in Canada
Landlord and commercial work in Canada
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. We can quote a run of properties together, and we are fully insured for the work.
Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
How the job changes by surface
Joints between dissimilar materials
Wherever two materials meet, they move differently. We seal the joint with a flexible exterior sealant so the movement is taken up.
Concrete and blockwork
Concrete faces can be dusty and porous, so preparation is key. A primer goes on where the product requires one before the bead.
What affects the cost of external mastic
There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:
- How much there is to do
- The type of sealant required
- How easy the joints are to reach
- Working hours on commercial sites
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.
Helping us quote
You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- The rough size of the job
- Whether it has been sealed before
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
Want a quote for external mastic? Please call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before work begins.
