Cade Street buildings and the weather
Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. With historic houses such as Bateman's (about 4.7 miles east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Cade Street as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.
Schools such as Heathfield Community College are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of All Saints, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.
Cade Street is about 7 miles north of Hailsham, in East Sussex. Cade Street gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. About our external mastic in Cade Street
As ARBOMaster approved applicators, we choose exterior sealants to suit the joint and the surfaces. Porous or awkward surfaces are primed where the sealant needs it and we use one wherever it does. If you have brick movement joints where the sealant has split and rigid filler in a joint that should flex, we can help.
Around Cade Street, older buildings can be stone, brick or timber-framed, many with extensions added later. Where one material meets another is where water generally gets in, and they need the right sealant at the right depth.

What the job involves on each surface
Concrete and blockwork
Wide joints in concrete need the depth controlling carefully. Backing rod sized to the joint sets it so the sealant is not too deep.
Copings and trims
A failed coping joint lets water into the top of the wall. Resealing them is a small job that protects a lot.
Should I try it myself first?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
How it works
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building. Somewhere like Cade Street needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- First we look over the joints with you, agree which to renew and talk through access.
- Old sealant and any debris are cut and raked out.
- Both sides are cleaned back to sound material and primed if needed.
- We push in closed-cell backing rod so the sealant is the right depth and bonds to the sides only.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied and tooled in a colour to suit the wall.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

How we quote for external mastic
For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:
- Any mould that needs treating
- The number of rooms or windows
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Whether the work is at height
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first and give you a clear price before work begins.
Helping us quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- The address or postcode of the job
- Whether it’s a home or a business
For a quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the location and a short description of the problem. You will have a clear quote before work begins.
Why deal with it now?
Water gets in through a failed movement joint, behind render and cladding. Resealing early keeps the job to the joint itself, instead of the wall and finishes around it. Around Cade Street, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.
Why us?

FAQs for Cade Street
Can you do external mastic in Cade Street?
Yes, Cade Street is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Will you come out to Cade Street?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
When is the sealant fully cured?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will tell you how long to leave the joint.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
Will it make a mess?
Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes. Each job is guaranteed for twelve months, wherever you are.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we’re fully insured.
Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep high-pressure jets off the joints
- Do not let climbing plants root in the sealant
- Look over the joints every year, ideally after winter
- Act on the first splits you see
Do not paint over the new sealant unless we have said the product is paintable. Many exterior sealants are not designed to be painted, and paint can crack as the joint moves.
Leave a failed movement joint and water keeps getting into the wall. That can lead to damp patches, staining and frost damage which cost more to put right than the joint.
