Bathroom resealing in Wivenhoe Cross

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it into walls, panels and floors. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on basins & vanity units, sinks & splashbacks and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are a joint torn by a bath that flexes and black spots spreading through the bead.

In a smaller place like Wivenhoe Cross, homes are mostly houses and bungalows rather than flats, some older and some much newer. Bathrooms and kitchens here get the same daily wear as anywhere, and the sealant and grout show it first.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Wivenhoe Cross

Wivenhoe Cross is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you look after a building such as Broomgrove Infant School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Wivenhoe station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Wivenhoe Cross?

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out keep the silicone damp for hours, and mould that has grown into the silicone generally will not clean off.

People usually contact us when they notice one of these:

  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile

If you live in an older home near The Church of St Mary, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

We do not publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Which sealant suits the joint

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • If someone has resealed it before

For bathroom resealing in Wivenhoe Cross, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.

Wivenhoe Cross: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords with property near Wivenhoe station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Is Wivenhoe Cross in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Wivenhoe Cross is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

After around 24 hours in most cases. You’ll get the exact cure time before we leave.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

The process

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The work normally takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included, depending on the size of the job. In a smaller place like Wivenhoe Cross, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

How to get a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

Advice

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units

Surface by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop, so the line does not stand out.

Why it’s worth doing now in Wivenhoe Cross

Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. In an older home around Wivenhoe Cross, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
