Bathroom resealing in Widewall

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We reseal the joints and will tell you if the water seems to be coming from somewhere else.

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

Bathroom resealing in Widewall, done properly

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Widewall. We’re ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every job carries our 12-month guarantee. We work on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and the jobs we see most are black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and a joint torn by a bath that flexes.

Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Widewall and across the Orkney Islands.

Honest limits

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before work begins. The work usually takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Outdoor work around Widewall depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

FAQs for Widewall

Can you do bathroom resealing in Widewall?

Yes, Widewall is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Widewall?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us and we’re fully insured.

Will there be a smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure, but it fades. Ventilation helps.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No. Fresh silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old sealant comes out first.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

How much does bathroom resealing cost in Widewall?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.

What we’re called out for in Widewall

Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, so a rushed job can start to lift early.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off

Whether the job is in Widewall itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

  • Whether VAT is included
  • Who turns up on the day
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared

Bathroom resealing around Widewall

Widewall is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Island jobs need planning around ferries and the weather, so the more notice, the better.

Around Widewall, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Widewall is about 12 miles south of Kirkwall, in the Orkney Islands. Widewall gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Across the Orkney Islands, we cover 51 places, and Widewall is one of them.

We cover every part of KW17 for bathroom resealing and the streets around it. Being close to the B9042, Widewall is simple for us to get to. Close by, we work in St Margaret's Hope (2 miles north-east), Grimness (3 miles north-east), Burray Village (4 miles north-east), St Mary's (7 miles north) and Lyness (8 miles west). Leave it or put it right?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts. In a place like Widewall, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
