About our bathroom resealing in Whitehills
Sealant that’s mouldy, cracked or peeling shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. A photo of the joints helps when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and we will give you a clear price before any work starts. We work on wet rooms, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures, and common reasons people get in touch are shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and a reseal done over the top of the old bead.
For a place like Whitehills, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will give you a quote.
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Surface by surface
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
Shower trays & enclosures
The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.
The process
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen from start to finish. Outside jobs in Whitehills need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
- Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Clear the area around the work

Leave it or put it right?
A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it will not bond. Water creeps under it and mould follows. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Whitehills
Whitehills is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Banff Academy, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

FAQs for Whitehills
Will you come out to Whitehills?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Whitehills for bathroom resealing?
Yes, Whitehills is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?
Yes. The old sealant is cut out and the joint degreased, because cooking grease stops silicone sticking, then we reseal in a colour to suit.
Will you leave a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.
What sealant do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice.
Where are you based?
We’re a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
When can I use the bath or shower again?
The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or as long as we advise for that product.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

What sealant work cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Failed grout lines across the wall
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.
What we seal
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Baths
- Basins & vanity units
- Sinks & splashbacks
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Wet rooms
What we are called out for in Whitehills
Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants are not made for constant wetting, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
- Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
If you live in an older home near Trinity Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
What to look for in a quote
- The length of the guarantee
- How long to leave it before use
- Whether you can choose the colour
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
