How the visit works

You do not need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the job takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is for a typical job. In a smaller place like Wargrave, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

What affects the quote in Wargrave

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The size of the job
  • The type of sealant required
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • If someone has resealed it before

Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll take it from there.

How to look after the new joints

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

How the job changes by surface

Baths

A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and isn’t stretched when it’s used.

Sinks & splashbacks

The edge of an inset sink is a common place for water to get under the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.

When to call us in Wargrave

Silicone doesn’t last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt

For landlords with property near Wargrave station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • Whether VAT is included
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Which colour the sealant will be

What we cannot put right

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • A tray or bath that is cracked through
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Wargrave

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as Robert Piggott CofE Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. In the older streets around Church of St Mary, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Questions from Wargrave

Can you do bathroom resealing in Wargrave?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Wargrave is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Will you come out to Wargrave?

Yes. Wargrave is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. Fresh silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. We always take the old sealant out completely.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels in Wargrave.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Wargrave and the rest of Wokingham, along with the rest of our area.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Getting it wet too early can spoil the new joint.
