Tarbert Bathroom Resealing
Bathroom resealing in Tarbert from a team with over 20 years’ experience. Rated 4.9 on Google from 180+ five-star reviews.
- Two layers of silicone, both failing
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
How we handle bathroom resealing in Tarbert
The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. We’re often asked to deal with a reseal done over the top of the old bead and gaps between the worktop and the wall, on baths, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after we have gone.

Looking after it afterwards
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
- Keep bottles off the sealant line
Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.
Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

Bathroom resealing around Tarbert
Tarbert is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
Around Tarbert, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What happens if it’s left?
A clean new bead makes a room look cared for, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. Lumpy sealant with smears on the tiles has the opposite effect, and it’s harder to put right later. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

What the job involves on each surface
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.
Shower trays & enclosures
Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.
What sealant work can’t fix
We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Surfaces we seal

What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Outside jobs in Tarbert need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
- Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
- Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.
How to prepare
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Tarbert
A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. An acrylic bath flexes under load, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- Two layers of silicone, both failing
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
Whether the job is in Tarbert itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
