Bathroom resealing in Slaugham, done properly

Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. Typical jobs include new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and water escaping at the shower enclosure, on sinks & splashbacks, wet rooms and shower trays & enclosures.

Somewhere as small as Slaugham, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

Fresh white silicone going into the corner where a shower screen meets the tiled wall

Do you need bathroom resealing in Slaugham?

Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Smears of silicone across the tiles
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off

If you live in an older home near St Mary's Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • How much there is to do
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location. Photos by email help us understand the job.

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Leave it or put it right?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but where mould is inside the silicone it usually comes back. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts. Older cottages and farmhouses around Slaugham can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Slaugham

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

What we do, step by step

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and tidy away. Most jobs take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Somewhere like Slaugham needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Slaugham questions

I let a flat near Balcombe station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Is Slaugham within the area you cover?

Yes. Slaugham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old sealant comes out first.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.
