Your questions about bathroom resealing in Shilton

Will you come out to Shilton?

Yes, Shilton is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you do bathroom resealing in Shilton?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Shilton is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.

Do I have to be there?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Bathroom resealing in Shilton, done properly

A bead that has gone black, split or come away shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a photo of the joints, and you’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. We are often asked to deal with failed sealant on the screen profile and a joint torn by a bath that flexes, on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and kitchen worktops & upstands.

Somewhere as small as Shilton, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Shilton

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether the work is at height

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

What we can’t put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Shilton?

A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, and a tray that isn’t fully bedded can rock. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure

If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Rood, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What to look for in a quote

  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

What bathroom resealing looks like in Shilton

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Schools such as Carterton Community College are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Why deal with it now?

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you don’t see: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. Around Shilton, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it generally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. In a small place like Shilton, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Looking after it afterwards

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries

Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, because they trap water against the silicone. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use keeps water from sitting on the joint.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally won’t remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
