What we cannot put right

We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If you are not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Sheffield Bottom

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. A full bath sits slightly lower than an empty one, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on baths, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are two layers of silicone, both failing and a bead that has pulled away from the tiles.

Somewhere as small as Sheffield Bottom, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

How it works

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the work takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is in most cases. In a small place like Sheffield Bottom, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Which sealant suits the joint

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

What we are called out for in Sheffield Bottom

Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, so a rushed job can start to lift early.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray

What your quote should include

  • Are they insured?
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • How the colour is chosen

Bathroom resealing around Sheffield Bottom

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Theale C.E. Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Homes close to Church of the Holy Trinity include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

How the job changes by surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Water getting under the rim of an inset sink can soak the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.

Baths

The long joint down the side of a bath is where most leaks start, particularly where there’s a shower over the bath. We finish it with a single, even bead of anti-fungal silicone.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Will you come out to Sheffield Bottom?

Yes. Sheffield Bottom is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What do you put in the joint?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

What should I tell you?

A short description and the location. We will ask anything else we need to know.
