Trash Green Bathroom Resealing

Baths, showers and worktops in Trash Green need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt

Why act early in Trash Green

A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it will not bond. Water creeps under it and mould follows. Older cottages and farmhouses around Trash Green can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Fresh white silicone going into the corner where a shower screen meets the tiled wall

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. For a village or hamlet like Trash Green, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

When to call us in Trash Green

A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. An acrylic bath flexes under load, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles

Letting a property close to Theale station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • The length of the guarantee
  • Are they insured?
  • How long to leave it before use

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

Basins & vanity units

On a basin, neatness shows: so we keep the line tidy and even, finished in a colour that suits the basin.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Trash Green

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around Church of St Mary the Virgin, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Burghfield St Mary's C.E. Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Trash Green: your questions answered

Is Trash Green in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Trash Green is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Will you come out to Trash Green?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we’ll explain our choice.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

For landlords and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we’ll quote.

What we cannot put right

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.
