When it is not the sealant

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Bathroom resealing in Nutbourne

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. If you’re dealing with lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and two layers of silicone, both failing, we can help, on kitchen worktops & upstands, wet rooms and baths alike.

Being in a small place like Nutbourne makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Laminate worktops swell if water gets into the core. A continuous bead along the back keeps water out, as long as the worktop itself is firmly fixed.

Basins & vanity units

The back of a basin gets wet every time someone washes. Old sealant there often goes black at the corners, so it’s cut out and renewed just like a bath joint.

Bathroom resealing around Nutbourne

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around St Mary's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For landlords with property near Pulborough station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

Why act early in Nutbourne

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that’s a far bigger job than a reseal. Older cottages and farmhouses around Nutbourne can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

How the visit works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Somewhere like Nutbourne needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Nutbourne?

Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Black spots spreading through the bead
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Water getting behind the bath panel

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as West Chiltington Community Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
