About our bathroom resealing in Hernhill
The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We are often asked to deal with sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away and leaks into the floor or ceiling below, on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and baths.
For a small place like Hernhill, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.
Our work is backed for twelve months.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Hernhill?
Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Traces of soap, bath oil and old sealant stop it gripping, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Water escaping at the shower enclosure
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
- Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
If you look after a building such as Hernhill Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
What your quote should include
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Is VAT in the price?
- What the cure time is

Why deal with it now?
Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Without that preparation, the new bead will not last. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hernhill can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Aftercare tips
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
- Give the silicone its full cure time
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.
Small signs come before a leak: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. Any of these means the joint needs attention.
When it isn’t the sealant
To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
How it works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, including the tidy-up. Somewhere like Hernhill needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Let us know about parking restrictions

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The size of the job
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.
What to tell us for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- Where the property is
- How we’d reach the joints
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Roughly how big the job is
Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details, and photos are welcome.
Bathroom resealing in Hernhill: local notes
Hernhill is within about 3 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Michael, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you let a flat or house near Selling station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
