Trusted bathroom resealing in Harmer Green

Bathroom resealing in Harmer Green, done properly

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. We work on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are mouldy sealant that has gone black and two layers of silicone, both failing.

Around Harmer Green, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

Every job is covered by a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Hertfordshire.

Harmer Green homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

Homes close to Digswell Village Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Oaklands Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

To get a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the location and a short description of the problem. We will give you a clear price before any work starts.

How it works

You do not need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is for a typical job. Somewhere as small as Harmer Green, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

Common problems we fix in Harmer Green

Baths and trays move. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Water getting behind the bath panel
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles

For landlords with property near Welwyn North station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

Questions to ask before booking

  • The length of the guarantee
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Is VAT in the price?

Choosing a sealant specialist

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Wet rooms rely on sound joints at floor and wall junctions. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so both are resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

Can I do it myself?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

How to look after the new joints

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then

Don’t stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.

Watch for the early signs: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. Any of these means the joint needs attention.
