Bathroom resealing in Hare Hatch, done properly
A reseal only lasts if the joint is properly prepared. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. If you’re dealing with gaps where the bath or tray has moved and leaks into the floor or ceiling below, we can put it right, on kitchen worktops & upstands, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures alike.
For a small place like Hare Hatch, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.
Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

What happens if it’s left?
Tired sealant isn’t a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back, as long as the fittings themselves are sound. If something else is wrong, we will tell you. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hare Hatch can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

The process
Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it usually takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. For a village or hamlet like Hare Hatch, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Advice

Keeping the joints in good condition
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
- Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
- Wait for the cure time we give you
Do not stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use helps the joint dry.
Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.
What affects the quote in Hare Hatch
There’s no set price list. What we look at:
- Whether the work is at height
- The size of the job
- The number of rooms or windows
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.
What we need to know
To make quoting easier, please include:
- Where the property is
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

Different surfaces, different methods
Baths
Acrylic baths give a little under load, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Filling the bath first allows for that movement.
Sinks & splashbacks
Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
Can I do it myself?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
What we are called out for in Hare Hatch
No sealant lasts indefinitely. Daily water, heat and cleaning products slowly wear it down, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
- A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
In the older streets around Church of St James, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
What to look for in a quote
- What the cure time is
- Whether you can choose the colour
- The length of the guarantee
- What product goes in the joint
