Gretna Bathroom Resealing
Problem with your baths, showers and worktops in Gretna? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant.
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
Bathroom resealing in Gretna, done properly
Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. If you have water getting behind the kitchen upstand and gaps where the bath or tray has moved, we can help, on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and kitchen worktops & upstands alike.
Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Do not let bottles sit on the bead
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
- Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
Have a look at the joints every few months. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, and if anything looks wrong, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Small signs come before a leak: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. Any of these means the joint needs attention.
Gretna homes and their sealant
Gretna is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
Homes close to St Andrew's Church of Scotland include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

What else we do in Gretna
What happens on the day
You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is in most cases. Around Gretna, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice
What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- How many areas need sealing
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Whether the work is at height
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
What to tell us for a quote
To make quoting easier, please include:
- How we’d reach the joints
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- If someone has resealed it before
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
If you are in Gretna and need bathroom resealing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Gretna
Will you come out to Gretna?
Yes. Gretna is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you work in hotels near Gretna?
Yes, hotels and guest houses are among the places we work. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.
Where do you work from?
We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Does someone need to be in?
We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we’ll quote it together.
What colours of sealant can you use?
White and clear are the most common choices, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee.
Will there be a smell?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures. Opening a window helps.
How the job changes by surface
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
Shower trays & enclosures
Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.
When to call us in Gretna
Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Bathrooms without good ventilation give mould all the damp it needs, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.
People normally contact us after spotting one of these:
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
Rented homes near Gretna Green station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.
What to look for in a quote
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- How hidden problems are handled
Leave it or put it right?
The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you don’t see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Without that preparation, the new bead will not last. In an older home around Gretna, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start.
