Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then

Check the sealant now and then. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, and if anything looks wrong, just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Cudworth

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. Typical jobs include lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop, on shower trays & enclosures, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units.

Around Cudworth, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

There’s no set price list. What we look at:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How easy the joints are to reach

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • The problem you’ve noticed

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

Cudworth: your questions answered

Is Cudworth in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Cudworth is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

Is Cudworth within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. Every job carries our 12-month guarantee.

Does someone need to be in?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

When something else is needed

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler

If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

The process

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Somewhere as small as Cudworth, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Leave it or put it right?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but where mould is inside the silicone it generally comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. In a small place like Cudworth, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Bathroom resealing in Cudworth: local notes

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you let a flat or house near Holmwood station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. If you look after a building such as Newdigate CofE Endowed Aided Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

For landlords and businesses

We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for.
