Bury Green homes and their sealant

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as Little Hadham Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church of St Cecilia, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Rented homes near Bishops Stortford station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Bury Green questions

Is Bury Green within the area you cover?

Yes. Bury Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Bishops Stortford station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

Is it messy?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before resealing.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

What we cannot put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms

Landlords, agents and businesses in Bury Green

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Bury Green and across Hertfordshire. Several sites can be quoted together, and we are fully insured.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can go on one quote.

How it works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included, and we explain the cure time before we leave. In a small place like Bury Green, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Advice

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally will not remove it. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The product the joint needs
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether the work is at height

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • If someone has resealed it before

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you are ready, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

How the job changes by surface

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We reseal the joints and will tell you if the water seems to be coming from somewhere else.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows.
