Brookhampton questions

Do you cover Brookhampton for bathroom resealing?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Brookhampton is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Generally after around 24 hours. We’ll tell you the cure time for the product we used.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Is white the only colour available?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Bathroom resealing in Brookhampton, done properly

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through into walls, panels and floors. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. Common call-outs are for smears of silicone across the tiles and water getting behind the bath panel, across basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms.

In a village or hamlet like Brookhampton, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

What sealant work cannot fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

How the visit works

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. Most jobs take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. In a small place like Brookhampton, access is usually the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about any water getting in

What bathroom resealing looks like in Brookhampton

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Stadhampton Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Baptist, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you let a flat or house near Radley station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower trays & enclosures

If a tray moves underfoot, new silicone won’t last. Movement is checked before anything is resealed, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows, so the line does not stand out.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning usually will not remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
