Bathroom resealing near Birdham

Bathroom resealing in Birdham, done properly

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, finished smooth so water drains away rather than collecting. If you have a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and smears of silicone across the tiles, we can put it right, on kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and wet rooms alike.

Around Birdham, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths

Why act early in Birdham

You do not need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. A new bead often brings the whole room back, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If we find a deeper problem, you will hear it from us. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Birdham, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

Surface by surface

Basins & vanity units

The back of a basin gets wet every time someone washes. Old sealant there often goes black at the corners, so it’s cut out and renewed just like a bath joint.

Sinks & splashbacks

Next to the sink, the sealant has to cope with constant water, including a food-safe sealant where that is needed. The joint is laid neatly so it’s easy to wipe.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Have a look at the joints every few months. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, so if something does not look right, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Do not wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Birdham

Birdham is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

For an older house near a landmark such as St James' Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Schools such as Birdham CE Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Fishbourne station change hands often, and mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

Birdham questions

Do you cover smaller places like Birdham?

Yes. Birdham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you work for landlords with property near Fishbourne station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with a short description of the job.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. In a small place like Birdham, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How to get a quote
