Window mastic in Tring

Tring questions

Is Tring in your area for window mastic?

Yes, Tring is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Is Tring within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you do upstairs windows?

Yes, where it’s safe. Higher or awkward frames may need extra access, and we will confirm what’s needed.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

Is the new sealant paintable?

Most silicone can’t be painted. If you plan to paint, tell us first and we can use a paintable sealant where it suits the joint.

Can you do the inside joint as well?

Yes. Draughts often come through the inside gap too, so sealing both is often worthwhile.

Window mastic in Tring, done properly

Every window and door frame has a gap around it, and mastic is what closes it. Once that seal fails, wind and rain find the gap. The old mastic is removed and the joint resealed with a flexible exterior sealant. We work on aluminium frames, composite doors and patio & French doors, and common reasons people get in touch are white mastic on grey or black frames and hard, cracked sealant around windows.

Many houses in smaller places like Tring have conservatories, garden rooms or patio doors. Those joints need the same attention as the main windows.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

Window mastic in Tring: local notes

With historic houses such as Cholesbury Manor House (about 2.9 miles south) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Tring as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that’s traditional sand mastic. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.

In the older streets around Church of St Peter St Paul (church of England), frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame. If you let a flat or house near Tring station, cracked frame mastic tends to show up as a draught or damp complaint, so it’s worth checking between lets.

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What affects the quote in Tring

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The type of sealant required
  • The size of the job
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The type of property
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • Whether it has been sealed before

We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details and send photos if you have them.

What happens if it’s left?

Running fresh sealant over the old joint is tempting, but new sealant cannot bond to old, crumbling mastic. It peels before long, and water still gets in behind. The old mastic has to come out. Around Tring, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Why choose Mr Mastic in Tring

  • 12-month guarantee on every job
  • 180+ five-star Google reviews
  • Trusted Arbo and Everbuild sealants
  • Colour picked to suit the job

Take a look at what affects the cost or what customers say.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Repaint timber before it’s bare
  • Wipe condensation off the frames
  • Paint up to the joint, not over it
  • Clear any debris from frame drain holes

Clean the frames with mild soapy water, and keep solvents and harsh chemicals off the joint.

A failed joint lets water into the wall a little at a time. You might not see it until plaster blows or a damp patch appears inside. Catching it early keeps the fix to a reseal.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Tring, several properties can go on one quote. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs.

We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

Do you need window mastic in Tring?

Every frame moves through the day. A plastic or aluminium frame lengthens in sunshine and shortens as it cools, while the masonry beside it stays put. A sealant that cannot keep up eventually tears.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Gaps where the sill meets the wall
  • Cold air getting in at the frame edge
  • White mastic on grey or black frames
  • Untidy mastic left by window fitters

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School, larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages.

What your quote should include

  • Who turns up on the day
  • The length of the guarantee
  • What preparation is included
  • Whether VAT is included

10 questions to ask before you book

What we do, step by step

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. In a smaller place like Tring, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. First, we go round the frames with you and agree the list.
  2. We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
  3. Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
  4. The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
  5. We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.

How to prepare

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
