Your questions about window mastic in Tong
Can you do window mastic in Tong?
Yes, Tong is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Do you cover smaller places like Tong?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. We can talk about working times when we quote.
How do I get a quote for window mastic in Tong?
Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.
Can you seal the gap between the frame and the plaster indoors?
Yes. Draughts often come through the inside gap too, so sealing both is often worthwhile.
Window mastic in Tong
Homes in Tong have every kind of window: from uPVC casements to timber and aluminium, along with patio doors, French doors and sills. The sealant is chosen to suit the frame material and the wall. We work on uPVC windows, window sills and patio & French doors, and common reasons people get in touch are draughty joints inside around the window and sealant in the wrong colour for the frame.
Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Tong is planned around the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.
A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Different surfaces, different methods
uPVC windows
Plastic frames move a lot between a hot afternoon and a cold night, so we use a flexible, low-modulus sealant. White is the usual colour, with brown, anthracite grey and black for coloured frames.
Aluminium frames
Bi-fold and sliding aluminium doors have long frame joints, and the threshold joint takes a lot of water. Each is cleaned, backed where deep and resealed.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tong
Failed mastic is not a reason to replace sound windows. Where the frames are sound, new mastic generally deals with draughts and leaks at the edges. If we find failed glass units or worn seals, we’ll tell you. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. The work generally takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- We check how each frame can be reached safely.
- Old, cracked mastic is removed completely.
- Frame and wall are cleaned and must be dry before sealing.
- Backing rod fills deep voids and the sealant goes in on top.
- The joint is shaped to shed water and the area tidied.
Before we arrive
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Let us know about parking restrictions
How to get a quote
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What affects the quote in Tong
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Any mould that needs treating
- The type of sealant required
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- The number and length of the joints
Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.
Helping us quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The type of property
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job.
Landlord and commercial work in Tong
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll quote.
How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Look round the frames every year or so
- Paint up to the joint, not over it
- Do not use solvent cleaners on the joint
- Keep paint and stain on wooden frames in good order
On timber frames, keep the paintwork in good order, since wood that gets wet swells and shrinks more. Paint up to the joint, not over the silicone.
Water gets in quietly when mastic fails. Often the first sign is a damp patch inside or flaking paint on the reveal. Catching it early keeps the fix to a reseal.
Tong homes and the weather
Tong is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on the mastic around window and door frames, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so the more notice, the better.
Whether the job is in Tong itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. In and around Tong, as anywhere, good window mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
