Window & door mastic in Stoneywood, Aberdeen
Our applicators work in Stoneywood on mastic around window and door frames, sills and patio doors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
- Water coming in at the bottom corners of a door
- White mastic on grey or black frames
Honest limits
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Worn gaskets, brush seals or a door that has dropped
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (that needs a new unit)
- Soft or decayed wood in the frame

How we handle window mastic in Stoneywood
There are two joints on most windows. Outside, the mastic keeps rain out; inside, the joint between frame and plaster stops draughts and tidies the reveal. We seal one or both, depending on what’s needed. If you’re dealing with rushed sealant from a window installation and old mastic that has gone black or come away, we can help, whatever the surface.
Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.

Leave it or put it right?
Choosing the product is half the job. Interior caulk and bathroom silicone are not made for exterior frame joints. A low-modulus exterior sealant keeps its stretch through hot and cold weather. In a place like Stoneywood, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Frames and glazing around Stoneywood
Historic houses like Friendville (about 4.5 miles south-east) are a reminder that the area around Stoneywood has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older timber frames in brick or stone need a different approach from a modern uPVC window. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.
Rented homes near Dyce station change hands often, and renewing tired window mastic between tenants heads off draught and damp complaints. Schools such as Bucksburn Academy are buildings too, and its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

How the visit works
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The work normally takes anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on how many frames there are, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
- Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
- The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
- Every joint is tooled smooth and checked before we leave.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Clear the area around the work

Advice
Surface by surface
Composite doors
Draughts round the door leaf generally come from worn seals or adjustment, not the mastic. We will tell you if that is what we find.
Aluminium frames
Coated aluminium needs a compatible sealant. Neutral-cure sealant is the safe choice.
How we quote for window mastic
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- Access and height
- The type of sealant required
- The size of the job
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
Helping us quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The type of property
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
We don’t publish a price list. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Your questions about window mastic in Stoneywood
Will you come out to Stoneywood?
Yes. Stoneywood is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
I let a flat near Dyce station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.
Do I have to be there?
That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.
What do you put in the joint?
It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Is the new sealant paintable?
Not if it’s silicone. Tell us your decorating plans and we will pick a sealant to suit.
Do you seal inside as well as outside?
Yes. Outside is the weather seal; inside closes the gap to the plaster. We can do either or both.
Can you reach windows above the ground floor?
Yes, where it’s safe. For high or awkward windows, we will tell you what access is needed.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple:
- Don’t paint over the silicone
- Don’t use solvent cleaners on the joint
- Keep timber frames painted
- Clear any debris from frame drain holes
Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, for as long as we advise. Keep jet washers away from the frames.
Signs to watch for: cracks in the mastic, gaps you can see light through, damp on the reveal or mould around the inside of the frame. Any of these is worth a call.
Do you need window mastic in Stoneywood?
Mastic ages in the weather. UV light hardens the outside of the bead, and over the years it loses its give, cracks and comes away.
Look out for any of the following:
- Gaps where the sill meets the wall
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
- White mastic on grey or black frames
- Gaps between the frame and the inside reveal
In the older streets around Church Of Scotland, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.
