Windows and doors in Lydd
Lydd is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.
Homes close to All Saints Church include some older properties, and the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in.

Window mastic for homes and businesses in Lydd
Homes in Lydd have every kind of window: from uPVC casements to timber and aluminium, plus patio doors, French doors and sills. Each gets a sealant chosen for the frame and the wall it meets. If you are dealing with gaps where the sill meets the wall and mastic that’s falling out in pieces, we can help, on window sills, patio & French doors and aluminium frames alike.
Houses in smaller places like Lydd can stand more in the open than those in a built-up town, so exposed windows and doors face the weather head on. That’s hard on the mastic around frames and sills.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

What happens if it’s left?
Working on frames from a ladder with a sealant gun is not easy, especially upstairs. A professional job is cut out properly, backed where needed and finished neatly, in a sealant suited to the wall. Around Lydd, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What happens on the day
Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door. For a job in Lydd, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
- Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
How to prepare
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice
How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Avoid blasting the frames with a pressure washer
- Check the mastic once a year
- Paint up to the joint, not over it
- Don’t use solvent cleaners on the joint
Have a look at the joints once a year, ideally after winter. Cracks and lifting edges are easy to spot early.
Draughts get worse, not better. As old mastic keeps shrinking, the gap widens, and a cold room gets colder. Resealing closes it.
Common problems we fix in Lydd
Joint shape matters as much as the product. A thin smear across a wide gap has nothing to it, and a gap filled solid can’t flex. That’s what backing rod is for.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
- Damp patches on the reveal after heavy rain
- Cold air getting in at the frame edge
Schools such as Lydd Primary School are buildings too, and its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.
What to look for in a quote
- What happens if the job turns out different
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Which colour the sealant will be
Honest limits
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:
- A frame that has rotted at the joint
- Worn gaskets, brush seals or a door that has dropped
- A failed sealed unit that has misted up
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Aluminium frames
- Patio & French doors
- Composite doors
- uPVC windows
- Window sills
- Timber windows & doors
Surface by surface
Composite doors
Front doors take the weather head on, and the top and bottom corners tend to fail first. We pay most attention there.
Timber windows & doors
Timber moves with moisture as well as heat, so the joint must stay flexible. The paint or stain needs to be sound where the sealant meets it.
Lydd: your questions answered
Does the coastal weather in Lydd affect outside sealant?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Do you cover smaller places like Lydd?
Yes, Lydd is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
Are you insured?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.
How much does window mastic cost in Lydd?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. Each job is covered for 12 months.
Do you have sealant for grey or black windows?
Yes. White, brown, anthracite grey, black and clear sealants are all available, so the joint suits the frame.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
