Window mastic in Kincraig, done properly

Mr Mastic’s applicators have more than 20 years’ experience with window and door sealants. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and we give a one-year guarantee on the work. If you are dealing with rushed sealant from a window installation and gaps where the sill meets the wall, we can help, whatever the surface.

Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Kincraig depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Clean frames with a soft cloth and soapy water
  • Keep paint off silicone joints
  • Ventilate rooms so frames don’t stay wet inside
  • Repaint timber before it’s bare

A yearly look round the frames is enough. Cracks and lifting edges are easy to spot early.

Wet, windy weather is when failed mastic shows itself, but resealing works best in dry conditions. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.

Kincraig: your questions answered

Is window mastic in Kincraig guaranteed?

All our work, in Kincraig and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will you come out to Kincraig?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Will resealing my frames help with draughts?

In many cases. Air often gets in between the frame and the wall, and resealing inside and out closes it.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Do you work on first-floor windows?

Yes, if safe access is possible. For high or awkward windows, we’ll tell you what access is needed.

How many windows can you do in a day?

A handful of frames is a short visit, while a whole house takes longer. You’ll get a timescale with the quote.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. The work normally takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. Around Kincraig, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
  2. We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
  3. Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
  5. We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Clear the area around the work

Surface by surface

Aluminium frames

Aluminium moves with heat, and the frames are often slimmer than uPVC. A tidy bead in anthracite grey, black or a matching colour keeps the clean look.

Timber windows & doors

On period timber windows, traditional sand mastic is sometimes the better choice. We’ll tell you which suits your home.

Should I try it myself first?

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

When to call us in Kincraig

On timber frames, paint and putty build up around the joint. Mastic painted over many times cracks with the paint, and the wood moves with damp as well as heat.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Gaps left after new windows were fitted
  • Black, perished sealant on frames
  • Cracked sealant at the sill ends
  • White mastic on grey or black frames

For an older house near a landmark such as Insh Church, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How long to leave it before use
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

How to choose a mastic man

Leave it or put it right?

Getting a straight, even bead on an outside frame takes practice, especially upstairs. We cut out properly, back deep gaps and tool every joint neatly, using a product chosen for the frame and wall. Around Kincraig, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

How we quote for window mastic

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Any working-time requirements on site

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The type of property
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Roughly how big the job is

Need a quote? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We’ll explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before work begins.
