Window mastic in Jury's Gap, done properly
The new joint does not have to be white. White, brown, anthracite grey, black and clear sealants are all available, so the bead blends with the window rather than framing it. Typical jobs include rain getting in at the frame or under the sill and a bead that doesn’t match the frame, across composite doors, aluminium frames and patio & French doors.
Outdoor sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work on frames around Jury's Gap is planned for dry weather. Tell us about access to every side of the house, including upper-floor windows.
Our work is backed for twelve months.

Different surfaces, different methods
uPVC windows
Plastic frames move a lot between a hot afternoon and a cold night, so we use a flexible, low-modulus sealant. White is the usual colour, with brown, anthracite grey and black for coloured frames.
Timber windows & doors
On period timber windows, traditional sand mastic is sometimes the better choice. We’ll tell you which suits your home.
Common problems we fix in Jury's Gap
Every frame moves through the day. A plastic or aluminium frame lengthens in sunshine and shortens as it cools, while the masonry beside it stays put. If the sealant can’t stretch, it splits.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Cracked internal joints between frame and plaster
- Water coming in at the bottom corners of a door
- Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
- Whistling draughts around closed windows
For landlords with property near Rye station, cracked frame mastic tends to show up as a draught or damp complaint, so it’s worth checking between lets.

Frames and glazing around Jury's Gap
Jury's Gap is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. With historic houses such as Lamb House (about 4.4 miles west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Jury's Gap as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older timber frames in brick or stone need a different approach from a modern uPVC window.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. Somewhere as small as Jury's Gap, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We check how each frame can be reached safely.
- All the failed sealant is cut away.
- The surfaces are cleaned and left dry.
- Deep voids are backed, then the sealant is gunned in.
- The joint is shaped to shed water and the area tidied.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Jury's Gap questions
Do you cover smaller places like Jury's Gap?
Yes. Jury's Gap is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Does the coastal weather in Jury's Gap affect outside sealant?
Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.
Is it worth trying it myself?
Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
Does the work come with a guarantee?
Yes. Our 12-month guarantee covers every job, inside or out.
What information do you need?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.
Will resealing my frames help with draughts?
Yes, where the draught is at the frame edge. We check where the draught is before we start.
Why it’s worth doing now in Jury's Gap
Not every sealant suits a window. Decorators’ caulk and bathroom silicone are not designed for outside joints that move. An exterior, low-modulus sealant stays flexible in sun and frost. In a small place like Jury's Gap, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.
What you get with us
- Homes, businesses and hotels
- Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
- Fully insured
- Arbo and Everbuild products

How to look after the new joints
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Repaint timber before it’s bare
- Do not paint over the silicone
- Don’t aim a pressure washer at the joints
- Keep drainage slots and sill grooves clear
Check the drainage slots in the frames aren’t blocked, so water can run away instead of sitting against the joint.
Water gets in quietly when mastic fails. You might not see it until plaster blows or a damp patch appears inside. Catching it early keeps the fix to a reseal.
