Hoo Window Mastic
Our applicators work in Hoo on mastic around window and door frames, sills and patio doors. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly.
- Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
- Hard, cracked sealant around windows
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
What affects the cost of window mastic
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The product the joint needs
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first.

Window mastic in Hoo
Around Hoo we seal all kinds of frames: uPVC, aluminium, timber and composite, along with patio doors, French doors and sills. The sealant is chosen to suit the frame material and the wall. We’re often asked to deal with untidy mastic left by window fitters and gaps between the frame and the inside reveal, on patio & French doors, window sills and uPVC windows.
Around Hoo, many homes face open ground, so their windows and doors take the full weather. Exposed frames and sills lose their mastic sooner than sheltered ones.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

What window mastic looks like in Hoo
Historic houses like Quex Park (about 2.4 miles north-east) are a reminder that the area around Hoo has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older timber frames in brick or stone need a different approach from a modern uPVC window. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.
If you let a flat or house near Minster station, renewing tired window mastic between tenants heads off draught and damp complaints. Managing a site like Monkton Church of England Primary School? Then its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Why deal with it now?
A cracked joint around a frame lets rain into the wall. Left long enough, it can stain inside walls, spoil plaster and rot wooden frames. Resealing now is a small job by comparison. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Hoo, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Doing several joints on one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear price for the lot.

What we’re called out for in Hoo
Every frame moves through the day. Sun on a frame makes it expand, and it contracts again overnight, while the brick or render around it hardly moves. If the sealant can’t stretch, it splits.
People usually contact us when they notice one of these:
- Leaking joints at the ends of sills
- Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
- Draughts coming in around windows and doors
- Cracked internal joints between frame and plaster
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

Timber windows & doors
Older timber windows in stone or brick can suit sand mastic rather than modern sealant. We can talk through the options.
Aluminium frames
Large aluminium doors have long joints down each side and across the head, and the bottom joint sees the most water. Each is cleaned, backed where deep and resealed.

Honest limits
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:
- A failed sealed unit that has misted up
- Penetrating damp from a failed cavity tray or render
- Rotten timber, which needs a joiner first
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

How the visit works
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on. The job usually takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In a small place like Hoo, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
- Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Keep children and pets away from the work area

Should I try it myself first?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
