Quotes for window mastic in Ewshot

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • The type of sealant required
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Access and height

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the property is
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Window mastic in Ewshot, done properly

Every window and door frame has a gap around it, and mastic is what closes it. When it cracks, hardens or pulls away, draughts and rain get in. Our applicators cut it out and replace it with a flexible, weatherproof sealant. We’re often asked to deal with mastic that has split away from the wall and a bead that doesn’t match the frame, across composite doors, timber windows & doors and patio & French doors.

Around Ewshot, many homes face open ground, so their windows and doors take the full weather. That exposure dries out and cracks the mastic around frames and sills faster.

Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee in Ewshot and across Surrey.

Aftercare tips

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Keep solvents and bleach off the sealant
  • Check the mastic once a year
  • Make sure the drainage slots are not blocked
  • Do not paint over the silicone

Timber frames need their paint kept up, since wood that gets wet swells and shrinks more. Paint up to the joint, not over the silicone.

Signs to watch for: split or missing mastic, gaps, damp patches inside or black mould on the reveal. Any of these is worth a call.

When to call us in Ewshot

Some failures date back to when the windows were fitted. Mastic laid onto dusty, damp or crumbling surfaces never bonded as it should, and it lets go sooner than it should.

Look out for these signs:

  • Water coming in at the bottom corners of a door
  • Old mastic that has gone black or come away
  • Cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame
  • Untidy mastic left by window fitters

Rented homes near Farnham station change hands often, and renewing tired window mastic between tenants heads off draught and damp complaints.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether VAT is included
  • What product goes in the joint
  • Who turns up on the day
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing

10 questions to ask before booking

Ewshot homes and the weather

Historic houses like Farnham Castle (about 1.9 miles south-east) are a reminder that the area around Ewshot has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that’s traditional sand mastic. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Managing a site like St Nicholas' School? Then the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s. Homes close to St Mary's Church include some older properties, and replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint.

What sealant work can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Soft or decayed wood in the frame
  • Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
  • Condensation trapped between the panes

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

How it works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes most of a day for a typical house, less for a few frames and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere as small as Ewshot, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, we go round the frames with you and agree the list.
  2. The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
  3. Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
  5. We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

How long before the joint can be used?
