Window Mastic in Croftamie

Our applicators work in Croftamie on mastic around window and door frames, sills and patio doors. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and a 12-month guarantee.

  • Cracked internal joints between frame and plaster
  • Untidy mastic left by window fitters
  • Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame

Keeping the joints in good condition

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Wash the frames with mild soapy water
  • Wipe condensation off the frames
  • Keep paint off silicone joints
  • Keep timber frames painted

Try not to touch the new joint while it cures, for as long as we advise. Do not point a pressure washer at the joints.

A small gap around a frame only grows. As the old mastic shrinks further, more air gets through, and heat escapes around the frame. A new joint closes it up.

Window mastic in Croftamie

A cold draught around a closed window often comes from the frame edge. A new joint stops the air getting through and quietens the whistle on windy days. If the draught is through the window seals instead, we will tell you. We work on composite doors, patio & French doors and aluminium frames, and the jobs we see most are white mastic on grey or black frames and mastic that has split away from the wall.

In and around a place like Croftamie, homes range from older stone-built cottages to newer houses. Wind-driven rain finds any gap around a frame or sill, so the mastic there works hard.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

What the job involves on each surface

Aluminium frames

Metal frames expand in the sun and are often slim, with little room for error. A tidy bead in anthracite grey, black or a matching colour keeps the clean look.

Window sills

Sills catch the water running down the glass, so the joints at each end and underneath matter. Each is cleaned out and resealed.

Do you need window mastic in Croftamie?

Sun, frost and rain wear sealant out. Sunlight dries the surface out, until it loses its stretch and starts to crack.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Black, perished sealant on frames
  • Gaps where the sill meets the wall
  • Cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame
  • White mastic on grey or black frames

For jobs in and around Croftamie, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Questions from Croftamie

Is Croftamie within the area you cover?

Yes. Croftamie is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is window mastic in Croftamie guaranteed?

All our work, in Croftamie and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, often. Several properties can be quoted together, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

When is the sealant fully cured?

That depends on the sealant used, so please follow the time we give you.

Will new mastic stop draughts?

Yes, if the air is getting in around the frame. If it’s through the window’s own seals or a hinge, that’s a different fix, and we’ll say so.

What information do you need?

What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door. Around Croftamie, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We check how each frame can be reached safely.
  2. Old, cracked mastic is removed completely.
  3. Frame and wall are cleaned and must be dry before sealing.
  4. Backing rod fills deep voids and the sealant goes in on top.
  5. We tool the joint so water runs off, then clear up.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on

When it is not the sealant

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Condensation trapped between the panes
  • Faulty window hardware
  • Draughts through the window seals rather than the frame

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.
