How it works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. For a village or hamlet like Berrick Salome, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We start by checking each window and door with you.
- Next the failed sealant is cut away and the joint cleaned.
- Deep gaps are filled with backing rod to set the depth.
- New exterior sealant goes on in a matching colour and is tooled smooth.
- We clear up and check every joint is fully closed.
Preparing for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
How to get a quote
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know what needs doing and where and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll take it from there.

Window mastic in Berrick Salome, done properly
The mastic around a window or door seals the gap between the frame and the wall. Once that seal fails, wind and rain find the gap. The old mastic is removed and the joint resealed with a flexible exterior sealant. If you are dealing with cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame and sealant in the wrong colour for the frame, we can put it right.
In a village or hamlet like Berrick Salome, older cottages and farmhouses often have timber windows set in stone or brick. Not every older frame suits a modern silicone bead, and sometimes a traditional sand mastic is the better choice.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in Berrick Salome and everywhere else we cover.

What we’re called out for in Berrick Salome
Every frame moves through the day. Sun on a frame makes it expand, and it contracts again overnight, while the masonry beside it stays put. If the sealant can’t stretch, it splits.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Cold air getting in at the frame edge
- Gaps between the frame and the inside reveal
- Untidy mastic left by window fitters
- A bead that does not match the frame
Around Berrick Salome, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Berrick Salome: your questions answered
Do you cover Berrick Salome for window mastic?
Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Berrick Salome is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.
What guarantee comes with window mastic in Berrick Salome?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status, and we are fully insured.
Can you seal the gap between the frame and the plaster indoors?
Yes. Outside is the weather seal; inside closes the gap to the plaster. We do one or both.
Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
What does window mastic cost?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a short description of the job.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
Can new window sealant be painted?
Not normally, if it’s silicone. Tell us your decorating plans and we’ll pick a sealant to suit.
DIY versus a professional finish
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Different surfaces, different methods
uPVC windows
We clean the frame edge carefully so the plastic is not marked, then the sealant goes in between frame and wall and tooled smooth.
Patio & French doors
Heavy door frames can move more than windows. The sealant must cope with it without cracking.
Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Keep paint off silicone joints
- Keep paint and stain on wooden frames in good order
- Keep jet washers away from the mastic
- Look round the frames every year or so
Clean the frames with mild soapy water, and keep solvents and harsh chemicals off the joint.
A failed joint lets water into the wall a little at a time. Often the first sign is a damp patch inside or flaking paint on the reveal. Catching it early keeps the fix to a reseal.
What window mastic looks like in Berrick Salome
Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind. With historic houses such as Brightwell Manor (about 3.5 miles south-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Berrick Salome as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that’s traditional sand mastic.
Homes close to Church of St Helen include some older properties, and the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is generally the first place rain gets in.
