Sand mastic near Paisley

Paisley: your questions answered

Is Paisley in your area for sand mastic?

Yes, Paisley is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Do you work for landlords with property near Paisley Canal station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Can sand mastic be painted?

The usual advice is to leave sand mastic unpainted. Ask us before you decorate around it and we will talk you through it.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and you’ll get one quote.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Will you leave a mess?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Paisley and the rest of Renfrewshire, along with the rest of our area.

Sand mastic for homes and businesses in Paisley

A silicone bead around a sash window can look out of place and does not suit the building. Sand mastic is the traditional choice and we can swap the silicone for it. If you’re dealing with patchy fillers round a sash window and cracked mastic round a front door frame, we can put it right.

In a town like Paisley, stone-built older streets normally sit alongside harled houses and newer estates, so windows range from sash and case in older buildings to uPVC on newer homes. The sealant has to suit both the frame and the wall it sits in.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Renfrewshire.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Leave the new mastic unpainted
  • Find out about consent before window work on a listed home
  • Take care around the mastic when scraping paint
  • Keep modern sealant off the mastic

Look at the mastic when you look over the windows. Catching cracks early keeps repairs small.

Good mastic helps keep the frame dry. Failed mastic lets water reach the timber, which can lead to rot.

Quotes for sand mastic in Paisley

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The type of sealant required
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

To get a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before we start.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

When something else is needed

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:

  • Broken panes
  • Sash cords, weights and draught-proofing of the sashes
  • Whether work needs listed building consent

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Stone surrounds
  • Period & listed homes
  • Brick reveals
  • Tenement windows
  • Timber door frames
  • Sash and case windows

For landlords and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

How the job changes by surface

Stone surrounds

The stone is treated with care while raking out the old mastic.

Brick reveals

Loose mastic comes out and deep gaps are packed before pointing.

Paisley homes and the weather

Paisley is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for the mastic around older windows and doors to keep out. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.

For landlords with property near Paisley Canal station, any sash windows need sound mastic to keep draughts and rain out. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Castlehead High School, larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages. Homes close to St Luke's Church include some older properties, and the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

Paisley is about 6 miles west of Glasgow, in Renfrewshire. From the centre of Paisley to the outskirts, sand mastic is available for homes and businesses alike. 21 places in Renfrewshire are on our list, large and small. We also work in Glasgow, around 6 miles away.

Our applicators cover all of PA2, PA1, PA3 and PA4 for sand mastic and the streets around it. That includes homes and businesses on High Street, Orr Square and Station Road. Paisley is on the A726 and A741, so it’s easy for us to get to. Nearby, we also carry out sand mastic in Charleston (1 mile south-east), Glenburn (1 mile south), Ferguslie Park (1 mile north-west), Inkerman (2 miles north-west) and Elderslie (2 miles west). We also work in nearby towns such as Renfrew (3 miles north-east), Johnstone (3 miles west), Bishopton (6 miles north-west), Linwood (3 miles west), Bridge of Weir (6 miles west) and Craigends (4 miles north-west).

Near you in Paisley

We work in homes and buildings around Hayweighs pub and Gallows Green, among other places. There’s a railway station in Paisley itself: Paisley Canal station. A little further out are Riccartsbar Hospital (less than half a mile west) and Paisley Museum (0.6 miles north). For a walk, there’s Walls Loch and Neilston Pad.

How it works

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. The work usually takes a few hours for a single window, longer for several. In a Scottish town like Paisley, parking is normally straightforward, though older centres can be tighter. If you are in a flat with a shared stair or a door entry system, let us know when you book.

  1. We look at the surrounds with you and agree the joints to renew.
  2. We remove the old, loose mastic.
  3. We pack any deep voids first.
  4. The sand mastic is mixed and pressed into the joint by hand.
  5. The surface is finished to suit the stone or brick.

How to prepare

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
