Wildhern Remedial Sealant
Removing failed, mouldy or leaking sealant and putting it right for householders, landlords and businesses in Wildhern. Fully insured, ARBOMaster approved and guaranteed for a year.
- Caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area
- Gaps opening along the back of the worktop
- Sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted
What we do, step by step
All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so there’s nothing for you to buy. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. Somewhere like Wildhern needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
- Every layer of old sealant is cut and cleaned out.
- The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
- Where the joint moves, backing and a flexible sealant suited to the movement go in.
- Finally we finish the joint and talk you through what we found.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Clear the area around the work
Getting a quote

Advice
How we handle remedial sealant in Wildhern
Getting old sealant out properly is slow, careful work. We cut out every layer, clear the residue and degrease the surfaces, without scratching tiles, trays or frames. Only then can new sealant bond. We are often asked to deal with floor or wall movement joints that have failed and worktop sealant that has shrunk and split, on botched or over-sealed joints, mouldy bath & shower sealant and shrunken worktop sealant.
Around Wildhern, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.
Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

Can I do it myself?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
What sealant work can’t fix
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Plumbing leaks behind walls or under trays
- Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will say what we think before you book.
What we seal
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Failed movement joints
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Expansion joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Botched or over-sealed joints
Keeping the joints in good condition
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Find out why the sealant failed first
- Keep an eye on the ceiling below the bathroom
- Clean sealant with mild products only
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
Ventilation keeps mould away from the new bead: use the extractor or open a window after showering.
Don’t keep resealing the same joint. Get the cause found first, or the next bead will go the same way.
Wildhern questions
Is Wildhern in your area for remedial sealant?
Yes, Wildhern is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job.
Do you cover smaller places like Wildhern?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
What does remedial sealant cost?
It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing and where.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We work from Crawley. We cover Wildhern and the rest of Hampshire, along with the rest of our area.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
Generally, yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available for many products, and we’ll agree it with you first.
What if resealing will not fix my leak?
We’ll tell you. A cracked tray, faulty valve or leaking waste needs a different trade, so we will not pretend it will.
Can you take off two layers of silicone?
Yes. Both layers come out; new silicone does not bond to old silicone, which is why over-sealing fails.
Can you remove old sealant without damaging the bath?
Yes. Residue is removed with a product suited to the surface rather than scraped hard.
Remedial sealant in Wildhern: local notes
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
In the older streets around Christchurch, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hatherden Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Why deal with it now?
Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint doesn’t reach what’s underneath. Removal is the only way to get at it, so the joint can be treated and resealed. Around Wildhern, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

What we are called out for in Wildhern
Using the wrong product is a common cause: caulk where it gets wet, rigid sealant where things move, or an acetoxy silicone on a surface it can mark. Each fails in its own way.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Mould trapped under a layer of silicone
- Worktop sealant that has shrunk and split
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
- Repeat leaks from the same joint
For landlords with property near Andover station, failed or mouldy sealant is worth putting right between tenancies, before it turns into a leak.
Before you book anyone

- The length of the guarantee
- Whether they’re fully insured
- How the colour is chosen
Surface by surface
Windows & doors
Wrong-coloured or messy mastic can be replaced for appearance too, matched to the frame colour.
Movement & expansion joints
Joints filled with mortar, grout or rigid filler can’t move. We rake that out where it can be removed and seal with a flexible product.
