Remedial sealant around South Weirs
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. South Weirs has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.
Letting a property close to Brockenhurst station? Then a joint that keeps failing is best fixed properly while the property is empty. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Saviour, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
South Weirs is about 4 miles north-west of Lymington, in Hampshire. How the visit works
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself usually takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied, depending on the amount of work. For a village or hamlet like South Weirs, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
- We strip the joint completely, removing any layers below.
- We clean the joint, treat any mould and let it dry.
- We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
- Finally we finish the joint and talk you through what we found.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Clear the area around the work
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How the job changes by surface
Leaking trays & enclosures
Where the joints are the problem, every bead is stripped and resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, including the screen profile and tray edges.
Windows & doors
Some leaks around windows come from the wall or the window itself. We check the joint and tell you if it looks to be something else.
When to call us in South Weirs
Even good sealant ages. Mould grows into the silicone, the surface hardens and the bead shrinks, especially in damp, poorly aired rooms. At that point it has to come out.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area
- Over-sealed joints coming away
- Beads that never stuck properly
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
Schools such as Brockenhurst Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
What to look for in a quote
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What guarantee comes with the work
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- Whether they’re fully insured

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.
Common questions in South Weirs
Do you cover smaller places like South Weirs?
Yes. South Weirs is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Brockenhurst station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details for a clear quote.
How long will it take to strip and reseal the joint?
Allow a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. You will know the timing when we quote.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Do you guarantee remedial jobs?
Yes. You get our 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us and we’re fully insured.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Keeping the joints in good condition
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Use a soft cloth, not a scourer, on silicone
- Check ceilings under showers for marks
- Do not add new sealant on top of old
- Run the fan after every shower
Ventilation keeps mould away from the new bead: run the fan during and after showers, or open a window.
Warning signs: sealant lifting at the ends, a second bead visible on top of the first, black mould under the silicone, or stains below a bathroom. Each one is worth getting looked at.
When it isn’t the sealant
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:
- A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Old mastic in a building from before 2000 that should be checked for asbestos before it’s disturbed
If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How we quote for remedial sealant
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- The number and length of the joints
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Whether the work is at height
- Any mould that needs treating
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.
Asking for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- The type of property
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- The rough size of the job
Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll take it from there.
