What we’re called out for in Prestwood

How a joint is built matters as much as the product. A bead bonded on three sides, or laid too thick, cannot flex, so it tears when the joint moves. Backing rod or bond-breaker tape prevents it.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Kitchen joints letting water behind the worktop
  • Movement joints that have split or pulled away
  • Repeat leaks from the same joint
  • Black mould underneath the bead

For an older house near a landmark such as Holy Trinity Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • The length of the guarantee
  • Whether they’re fully insured

Our hiring checklist

Remedial sealant for homes and businesses in Prestwood

A movement joint stops working when its sealant splits or sets hard. We cut out the failed sealant and set the depth with backing, then a flexible sealant matched to the movement goes in. If you’re dealing with over-sealed joints coming away and floor or wall movement joints that have failed, we can help.

Smaller places like Prestwood still have plenty of bathrooms that work hard every day. Older or newer, every room gets the same approach: old sealant or grout cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.

Every job is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Prestwood homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Schools such as Prestwood Junior School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Great Missenden station? Then botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants.

Prestwood is about 5 miles north of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. Jobs in Prestwood get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Across Buckinghamshire, we cover 263 places, Prestwood among them. Our Reading page covers work nearby, about 20 miles away.

Work in HP16 is quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. We cover properties on High Street, Honor Road and Gryms Dyke. If you are just outside Prestwood, we cover Stony Green (1 mile south-west), Bryant's Bottom (1 mile west), Great Kingshill (2 miles south), Little Kingshill (2 miles south-east) and Upper North Dean (2 miles south-west). Larger places within reach include Aylesbury (9 miles north), High Wycombe (5 miles south), Chesham (5 miles east), Marlow (9 miles south), Amersham (6 miles east) and Beaconsfield (7 miles south-east).

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Run the fan after every shower
  • Keep an eye on the ceiling below the bathroom
  • Don’t add new sealant on top of old
  • Don’t point over movement joints

Keep an eye on the joint at first, particularly where the original failure was caused by movement. Should anything change, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Signs to act on: sealant lifting at the ends, a second bead visible on top of the first, black mould under the silicone, or stains below a bathroom. Any of them means it’s time for remedial work.

Prestwood questions

Do you cover smaller places like Prestwood?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you cover Prestwood for remedial sealant?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Prestwood is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Which products do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Just list everything you need and we will quote it together.

What if resealing won’t fix my leak?

We’ll tell you. A cracked tray, faulty valve or leaking waste needs a different trade, and we won’t reseal for the sake of it.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

Why act early in Prestwood

Leaks that are left keep doing damage out of sight: soaked floorboards, ceiling stains below and blown plaster. By comparison, sorting the joint is quick. Homes in smaller places like Prestwood can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

Why us?

  • You choose the colour before work begins
  • 12-month guarantee on every job
  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • Tidy, careful work

What the job involves on each surface

Movement & expansion joints

A movement joint must be able to stretch. We remove the failed sealant, fit backing and reseal with a low-modulus product.

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Mould often spreads under the bead as well as through it. We treat the exposed joint once the bead is out.

The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before work begins. The work usually takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. For a job in Prestwood, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
  2. All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
  3. We clean the joint, treat any mould and let it dry.
  4. We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
  5. The new joint is tooled neatly and we explain anything else we found.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How we quote for remedial sealant

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The type of sealant required
  • The number and length of the joints

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Helping us quote

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and describe the job and send photos if you have them.
