Remedial sealant near Hazeley

Remedial sealant in Hazeley, done properly

With more than 20 years’ experience, our applicators have seen most of the ways sealant can fail. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every remedial job comes with a 12-month guarantee. If you are dealing with repeat leaks from the same joint and torn expansion joints, we can put it right.

In a village or hamlet like Hazeley, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Common problems we fix in Hazeley

A lot of failed joints have been sealed over rather than replaced. Silicone doesn’t bond to silicone, so the new layer peels, and damp and mould settle between them.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface
  • Black mould underneath the bead
  • Floor or wall movement joints that have failed
  • Gaps opening along the back of the worktop

For landlords with property near Winchfield station, botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who turns up on the day
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • Whether they’re fully insured

10 questions to ask before you book

Different surfaces, different methods

Worktops & kitchens

A loose worktop splits its sealant. It needs fixing down first, and we will tell you if we find it.

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Where mould keeps coming back, ventilation is usually part of the cause. Along with resealing, we will mention if the room needs better ventilation.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

If you manage several properties in or around Hazeley, several properties can go on one quote. Send us the addresses and the work at each, and photos by email help.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Quotes for remedial sealant in Hazeley

There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • The amount of work
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The type of sealant required

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • The rough size of the job

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

When it isn’t the sealant

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacing)
  • Sealant in an older building that needs testing for asbestos first

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Failed movement joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Shrunken worktop sealant
  • Expansion joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Botched or over-sealed joints

The process

We bring everything the job needs with us. Once we have agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. Somewhere as small as Hazeley, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
  2. Every layer of old sealant is cut and cleaned out.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
  4. We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
  5. We tool the joint and tell you about anything else that needs attention.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the work
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. We cover Hazeley and the rest of Hampshire.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we’re fully insured for every job we do.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

Most of the time, yes. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.

Do you guarantee remedial jobs?

Yes, with our 12-month guarantee. Where we’ve flagged another fault, it needs fixing for the joint to last.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Should I try it myself first?

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
