What remedial sealant looks like in Fisherton

Fisherton is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

If you let a flat or house near Maybole station, a joint that keeps failing is best fixed properly while the property is empty.

About our remedial sealant in Fisherton

In Fisherton, as anywhere, remedial jobs tend to look alike: sealant over sealant, mould under the bead, leaks that come back and movement joints that have split. Each is stripped back and done again properly. If you have repeat leaks from the same joint and wide, uneven beads that look worse than the old ones, we can help.

A bathroom in a place like Fisherton gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

What we are called out for in Fisherton

Joint depth matters. Sealant packed too deep, or stuck to the back of the joint as well as the sides, can’t stretch, and tears at the first real movement. Backing sets the depth and stops that.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
  • Smears and lumps from a botched reseal
  • Products that weren’t meant for the joint
  • Movement joints that have split or pulled away

In the older streets around Kirkbride Old Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

Why act early in Fisherton

Stripping out botched sealant adds time to a reseal, but rarely a lot: the work takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. It’s far less disruption than resealing the same joint again and again. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

When it isn’t the sealant

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • A tray or bath that is cracked
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Botched or over-sealed joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Shrunken worktop sealant
  • Failed movement joints
  • Expansion joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints

Landlords, agents and businesses in Fisherton

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Different surfaces, different methods

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Mould that has grown into silicone doesn’t clean out for good. The sealant is cut out completely, the joint treated with a mould remover and dried ahead of a new anti-fungal bead.

Worktops & kitchens

A loose worktop splits its sealant. That needs refixing before resealing, and we’ll tell you if we find it.

What we do, step by step

There’s no need to move everything out, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out for a typical job. Outside jobs in Fisherton need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. We protect the surfaces around the joint.
  2. Every layer of failed sealant is stripped out.
  3. We clean and degrease the joint and look for signs of movement or water.
  4. New sealant goes in once the joint is dry, and is tooled smooth.
  5. We give you the cure time and explain what caused the failure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Clear the area around the work

Advice

DIY sealant or a professional job?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Fisherton questions

Will you come out to Fisherton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Maybole station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

What if resealing will not fix my leak?

You’ll hear it from us. A cracked tray, faulty valve or leaking waste needs a different trade, and we will not reseal for the sake of it.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

Someone resealed my shower and it’s leaking again. Can you help?

Yes. We check it’s the sealant and not the tray, valve or waste, then strip and reseal the joints.

How long should I leave it?

Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will tell you how long to leave the joint before we leave.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Just list everything you need and you’ll get one quote.
