Two decades of sealant work means we recognise most failures quickly. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every remedial job comes with a 12-month guarantee. If you’re dealing with decorators’ caulk around a bath or shower and sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface, we can help, whatever the surface.

In and around a place like Crail, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee.

How the visit works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. For a place like Crail, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
  2. We strip the joint completely, removing any layers below.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
  4. We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
  5. We tool the joint and tell you about anything else that needs attention.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Crail is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Do you cover smaller places like Crail?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.

How much does remedial sealant cost in Crail?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You will get a clear quote before work begins.

How long before the joint can be used?

Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We’ll give you the cure time for the product we used before we leave.

My shower still leaks after a reseal. Can you sort it?

Yes. We’ll take all the sealant out, look for why it failed and reseal it properly.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

In most cases you can choose. We’ll explain which colours are available.

Aftercare tips

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t add new sealant on top of old
  • Find out why the sealant failed first
  • Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
  • Keep the room well ventilated

Do not let anyone seal over it later. Over-sealing is how many remedial jobs start, so the old bead should always come out first.

Mould trapped under over-sealed joints spreads unseen. When it finally shows, the whole bead needs to come out.

How the job changes by surface

Over-sealed & botched joints

A botched joint can hide two or three layers of sealant, and silicone residue is cleaned off the tiles too. Only a clean joint will take a new bead.

Leaking trays & enclosures

If the tray is cracked, or the leak is from the valve or waste, sealant will not fix it. We say so rather than reseal.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Remedial sealant in Crail: local notes

Crail is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In the older streets around Parish Church Hall, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. In and around Crail, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Quotes for remedial sealant in Crail

You will get a clear quote before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Access and height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The rough size of the job
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. Whenever you are ready, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Leave it or put it right?

Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint does not reach what’s underneath. The layers have to come out, so the joint can be treated and resealed. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
