What happens if it’s left?

Hidden water does the most damage: wet floors, stained ceilings and swollen worktops. By comparison, sorting the joint is quick. Around Amberley, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Remedial sealant for homes and businesses in Amberley

Some sealant jobs aren’t a simple reseal, because someone has already had a go. New sealant over old, smeared beads, unsuitable products and hidden mould all need stripping out. We work on leaking tray & enclosure joints, botched or over-sealed joints and mouldy bath & shower sealant, and people most often call us about products that weren’t meant for the joint and movement joints that have split or pulled away.

Being in a small place like Amberley makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Report a tray that rocks or a worktop that lifts
  • Ask why a joint failed before redoing it
  • Deal with small splits early
  • Always have old sealant cut out, not covered

Go easy on the new sealant: no scraping, scouring pads or harsh chemicals.

A split movement joint lets rain into walls and floors, and the longer it’s left, the more the joint edges break down. Resealing while the edges are sound is simpler.

How the job changes by surface

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Black mould inside the bead will not scrub out. The sealant is cut out completely, the joint treated with a mould remover and dried before anti-fungal sanitary silicone goes in.

Leaking trays & enclosures

A shower that leaks after resealing often has a tray that moves or an enclosure sealed on the wrong side. Both are checked before we reseal.

Amberley questions

Is Amberley within the area you cover?

Yes, Amberley is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

I let a flat near Amberley station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details for a clear quote.

Is there any odour?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

What do you put in the joint?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we will tell you what we are using.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and the location. If we need more, we will ask.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

Can you remove sealant that is been put over old sealant?

Yes. It’s slower than a standard reseal, because every layer has to come out cleanly, but it’s the only way the new joint will last.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Quotes for remedial sealant in Amberley

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The size of the job
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The type of sealant required

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Where the property is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved.

Amberley homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Managing a site like Amberley CofE Primary School? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Homes close to The Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Letting a property close to Amberley station? Then a joint that keeps failing is best fixed properly while the property is empty.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

How it works

We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied, and the area is left clean. Somewhere as small as Amberley, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We look at how the sealant has failed and check for movement or a leak path.
  2. All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
  4. We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
  5. Finally we finish the joint and talk you through what we found.

Preparing for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
